This post has been a long time coming, purely because my pigmentation gets worse in summer so I wanted to take a photo of my worst patch in Spring and another when Autumn was kicking in to give a full picture of the changes. I have seen a lot of people use the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask on Instastories and what always appealed to me was the shape. Some LED masks are very structured whereas this fits around your face and accommodates all face shapes and sizes, so when I was given the opportunity to try it, I jumped at the chance! This was very kindly gifted to me, but as with all of my reviews, my opinion is entirely honest and you will see the results in the photos. If you want to buy this or any of the CurrentBody products, I have a 15% discount code for you - enter LYMINCB at the checkout to avail of this (I have my eye on a few other products for the eyes, hands and neck and with expensive products, it's always great to have a discount!).
The majority of posts that I've seen in relation to this mask focused on anti-ageing results (reduction in appearance of fine lines etc), however I wanted to focus on hyperpigmentation because that's probably the issue that bothers me the most about my skin on a daily basis, plus it isn't something that any product will make a huge difference to quickly, whereas dull skin can be improved with a few products, or dehydrated skin can be temporarily remedied with some products. Hyperpigmentation is something that seems to creep up on you and then you suddenly notice it and can't un-see it! In my case, I first noticed it after a holiday where I was on medication, which made my skin more vulnerable to sun damage. I took all of the precautions - SPF 50, which was regularly reapplied and I stayed in the shade but after that holiday, I was very aware of the area of pigmentation. Obviously, this wasn't an overnight thing - it was from years of not wearing SPF daily, but it just seemed to appear overnight.
So, why LED? These masks are hugely popular because they will address several issues at the same time - inflammation, improvements in tone and texture, as well as dealing with hyperpigmentation. Most people have very busy lives, which is why multi-tasking products are hugely popular. The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask delivers the same wavelengths as salon machines, penetrating up to 4cm of tissue. It contains 132 LED bulbs and due to the shape of the mask, no piece of skin is left uncovered whereas some other LED masks are rigid, The fact that it only needs to be used for 10 minutes each time means that most people can fit it into their weekly routine (3-5 times, perhaps build up to 5 or just use what fits easily into your routine and lifestyle).
To use, skin needs to be cleansed and then ideally, you would apply the Green Tea Antioxidant Serum from Currentbody. You then apply the mask, tighten it using the straps at the back of your head, switch it on and sit back, relax and you can either have a quick nap or watch TV etc. It will automatically switch off after 10 minutes, but if there's some reason that you want to switch it off before then, you can do so by pressing firmly on the button. You then wipe it down and store it in the bag provided.
Now for my results....
Please excuse the fact that I didn't scrap my hair back fully behind my ear when I first took the photo, but I went with it because I wanted to show you the extent of the pigmentation. I have had my GP look at it and it's not something sinister that I need to worry about - it's purely cosmetic and for vanity reasons that it bothers me. Plus, my skin looks very dry as it is so zoomed in!
Afterwards, I don't know about you but I can see a huge difference in my skin! I am so pleased with the results and much more confident going makeup-free! When the pigmentation first appeared I remember my niece asking me what the mark was on my face (you know how kids have no filter - love that by the way), but I thought that if a four year old noticed it, it was definitely obvious. I don't want to wear makeup or even concealer daily, so I honestly couldn't be happier with the results.
Although I didn't take photos (because I was focusing on my hyperpigmentation), I have noticed a big reduction in terms of inflammation too. My skin looks calmer and just healthier overall.
Although the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask isn't cheap, it is worth the investment in my opinion. It's worth saving form using the code and keeping an eye out for Black Friday deals. The results achieved with it far outweigh any single skincare product (and I have tried A LOT!).
Have you used LED masks before? I'd love to hear your thoughts and whether you think you'd invest? If you decide to go for it, don't forget that LYMINCB will save you 15%.
