One of my favourite brand discoveries last year was Naya* (blog post here) and they released a new product at the end of April, which I have been testing for around 8 weeks now. It's called Antioxidant Defence Booster* and it's quite a unique product as it's in powder form, designed to fit it with your current routine. *Spoiler alert* I have loved the results and Naya have kindly offered to give the Antioxidant Defence Booster* and their Everyday Glow Serum* as a prize to one of my readers so keep reading until the end to find out how to win!
As it happens, I still had some Everyday Glow Serum from the brand left so I decided to combine it with that but it could be combined with any serum or moisturiser. The little spoon is attached to the bottle with a heart sticker, which is so cute! One spoon of this powder is mixed with 2-4 pumps of either serum or moisturiser.
Antioxidant Defence Booster* contains a blend of Vitamins A and C, with Cacay Oil and Niacinamide (all anti-oxidants that we see in our everyday products), combined with desert algae and Schisandra Extract, which is an ingredient that I have only heard of in supplements before, but not skincare. We all know that Vitamins A and C help to firm and brighten the skin. Cacay Oil helps to improve the elasticity of the skin as it contains 50% more Vitamin E and twice the amount of Linoleic Acid than Argan Oil, as well as three times more retinol than Rosehip oil (this oil is sustainably sourced from farmers in Colombia), but I was curious as to what Schisandra Extract would do and research showed that it would improve the suppleness of the skin. Antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals that damage the skin so this combination of ingredients left me with very high hopes.
I had two concerns - the first is that I often have issues with daily use of Vitamin C products and the second was if it would do anything about the little patch of pigmentation that rears its head every summer for the past four years ( I used Factor 50 while on medication that didn't interact well with the sun, wore a hat and stayed in the shade, yet this tiny patch appeared and has re-appeared every year since). My niece even asked me on FaceTime what the mark on my face was - so I really wanted to test this product as the small patch was really bothering me (which is ridiculous, I know, given how ill I am, but it was staring me in the face every time I looked in the mirror). If I wore foundation, I still needed to apply concealer on this area and if I applied tan to my face, it would catch on this patch and make it look darker.
I chose to mix the powder with the glow serum and use every morning. I already knew that the serum instantly made my skin glow and generally look better so I really was testing the Defence Booster. It was around the 6 week mark that I noticed that the pigmentation had faded - not disappeared completely, but I no longer require concealer over a light base. I'm confident that with consistent use, the pigmentation will fade completely.
My skin, overall, is looking great - despite me feeling awful and being in pain. I was doing my skincare the other day and laughed at the lies my products make my skin tell. The outside tells a completely different story to the inside (apart from my eyes - the pain takes the twinkle in those away from me). My skin is firm and bouncy, it is even in tone and radiant and doesn't look inflamed on a regular basis, which is quite frequent for me. This product is an unsung hero but it's only a matter of time before it gathers hype.
