I know that liquid lipsticks are very much having their moment this year but I am not the biggest fan of them and have only tried a small number of brands because, like my skin and hair, my lips are dry so they don't always suit me. That being said, I really loved the colour of the new liquid lipstick from Anastasia Beverly Hills in the shade Allison, which is part of their Holiday Kiss Collection so I thought I would give it a go and today I want to share my thoughts on it with you and compare it with Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lolita.
When Anastasia Beverly Hills first released their range of Liquid Lipsticks, I bought one in either Milkshake or Pure Hollywood - I can't remember exactly which, but I hated it! It was so drying and showed up every line and dry patch on my lips. Because of that, I resisted buying any more from the range despite loving some of the colours. I hope I won't jinx myself by saying it, but at the moment my lips are not feeling too dry, despite the change in weather, thanks to Lanolips Lemonaid Treatment, and I am really enjoying using my Kat Von D liquid lipsticks so I thought it was time to re-visit the Anastasia offering, especially when I saw Allison, which is a plum-pinky brown - the perfect 90s lip colour.
As you can see in the swatch above, the colours of the lipsticks are very similar so if you can't get hold of Allison, don't despair because there really is very little difference between them and the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks are available to buy in Debenhams now, which is brilliant for those of us in Ireland and the U.K. The top swatch is Allison and the bottom swatch is Lolita.
I am very pleased to say that the formula of this Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick seems to have changed because it is not overly drying. It definitely isn't creamy but as far as matte lipsticks go, it isn't drying. It is incredibly opaque and you need to be careful with application because it dries down very quickly (faster than the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick) so there is very little time to make corrections. Once it is dry, it will not budge and it lasts a good 6 hours on me before it needs re-touching. Topping it up needs to done with a very light hand to prevent too much product build up and any flaking or gathering. I wouldn't describe it as lightweight because you can definitely feel it on the lips but it isn't uncomfortable.
Overall, I really like Allison, although I wouldn't wear it on a daily basis because I think it would dry my lips out if I wore it every day. Kat Von D's liquid lipsticks are a little lighter in texture but both are equally pigmented, equally long-lasting and both have similar sized applicators. The Kat Von D lipstick takes slightly longer to dry down but I wouldn't see that as a negative as it allows time to correct any errors. Both are similarly priced but if you live outside of the U.S. the Kat Von D option is easier to get hold of so it just comes down to brand preference. Had I seen Allison and Lolita swatched, I wouldn't have bought Allison because they are so similar that there really isn't any need to have both in my collection. Having said that, I will get a lot of wear out of both of them over the coming months.
Do you like liquid lipsticks? If so, what is your favourite brand? Have you tried either of the products I have reviewed today? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
