Hello, hello! Long time, no post! You might know that I have had a chronic illness for a long time and may have seen on my Instastories that things have been getting progressively worse over the past year, to the point that blogging was the last thing on my mind as it was all I could do to get through the day. I went to a clinic abroad a couple of months ago for new tests and treatment and now have a new plan going forward. There have been ups and downs along the way but I'm feeling very confident, excited and positive about this new plan. I am hoping to commit to posting once (maybe twice) weekly for the next few months until I am reviewed and hopefully making progress. Today, I am jumping right in with a review of Haus Labs foundation and concealer for a person with dry skin.
Haus Labs is the brainchild of Lady Gaga, it's vegan, cruelty free and became available to those of us on this side of the Atlantic when Sephora's UK website was established. I had seen some rave reviews but what made me pull the trigger and place an order was Joanne from Lipstick and Leopardprint's review. I always trust Joanne's opinion because in the ever expanding sea of beauty bloggers/influencers, she has remained consistently honest.
To give the foundation it's full name, it's called Haus Labs by Lady Gaga Triclone Skin Tech Medium Covered Foundation with Fermented Arnica - what a mouthful! From that, you know what level of coverage to expect and can guess that it is infused with skincare ingredients (there are in fact over 20 skincare ingredients). There are 51 shades available, in neutral, cool and warm tones, so I think that there should be a shade for everyone. It is the only foundation available from the brand and said to suit all skin types, which isn't easy for a foundation given that very oily skin is a completely different canvas to very dry skin.
I guessed my shade (as usual) and chose one that works perfectly when I'm (fake) tanned but is a bit too deep for my natural skin. First impressions were that the bottle is heavy; not suitable for carrying around in your handbag (I don't like my bag to be particularly weighty!), but I like the design of it. The foundation itself is quite liquidy so I find it best to shake the bottle well before I pump some of the product onto my hand. Some people prefer to apply their foundation directly to the face - you do you! It blends seamlessly and although marketed as a medium coverage foundation, it can easily be sheered out to a tint or built to a fuller coverage, as it layers well. The finish is very skin-like. It's isn't dewy or particularly luminous, certainly not matte, it really just looks like very natural, healthy skin. It is super lightweight - it actually doesn't feel like you have anything on your face. I just love how it instantly brings my skin to life! My skin type is dry but it's extra dry since I started this treatment and this foundation doesn't cling to any dry areas or accentuate fine lines. It also doesn't highlight any pores or textured skin. The wear time is excellent - I rarely wear makeup for longer than eight hours and at that point, it's the same as when just applied. Overall, this foundation is an absolute winner for me and one that I can see myself repurchasing when I eventually finish this bottle.
The concealer (named Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + Depuffing Concealer) is another winner! It gives solid medium coverage and is ideal for the under eye area because it's hydrating without being too slippy. It doesn't settle into fine lines and a little goes a long way, which is ideal for more mature skin as light layers are the best way to go as we get older. I almost can’t imagine finishing this tube because such a tiny amount is required! Due to the great coverage, this is perfect for use on areas of inflammation and blemishes too (I rarely get spots but since I started treatment, which is killing off a lot of internal infections and focusing on increasing my liver function, I’ve had some blemishes so I can safely say that this does a great job at covering them).
As you can probably guess, I can’t rave about this duo enough and it’s made me eager to try more from the brand! If you’ve tried other products, I’d love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.
