Charlotte Tilbury does fragrance....

Charlotte Tilbury does fragrance

Who remembers Charlotte Tilbury's Scent Of A Dream fragrance? I loved it even though some people thought it was an old lady scent! I loved the vintage style bottle that housed it too. Alas, it was discontinued and Charlotte recently released a whopping six new fragrances, which are described as being mood-boosting (I guess all fragrances are though!). They are quite pricey at £130 for 100ml and £20 for 10ml, so I was glad when I saw the discovery set for £25 because I haven't been near a CT counter in a while and wanted to smell the fragrances. The full sized bottles are beautiful and vividly coloured but this set contains mini vials - perfect for a discovery set and ideal if you want to treat yourself to a full size but are unsure which to go for. The names are a bit out there but I expect nothing less from the brand at this stage! The descriptions of products get more outlandish with every release - apparently these fragrances are your invisible superpowers, which feel like portals to different dimensions and other worlds! Are there enough rolly eyes for this? Anyway, on with my thoughts and whether I will be buying a full size!

More Sex: This is not just a musky fragrance, it's a sexy musk! The descriptions really do make me laugh! I actually quite like this one, to my surprise! It's quite masculine, with notes of musk, amber and sandalwood among others. It's warm and actually does smell quite sensual. If you like light fragrances, this is not for you, but musk lovers will enjoy this!

Love Frequency: If you like rose scents, you'll love this but if you don't, this is not for you. The dominating note is rose but it's balanced with musk and cashmere wood. Again, I like this one. It's feminine and more suited to daytime wear, in my opinion, but I am a lover of rose scents, particularly when they don't smell synthetic, so we're on to a winner here!

Joyphoria: This is an unusual one because it contains notes of coconut water, neroli oil, tuberose, vanilla bean, cashmere wood and musk. I feel that the combination doesn't work well because it can't decide what it wants to be. Usually when I see coconut water, I think of holidays but this isn't a classic 'summer in a bottle' fragrance. The notes are too confusing and don't blend well in my opinion. I actually washed this off my skin because I found it cloying. It definitely didn't spark joy in me!

Magic Energy: Energy in a bottle you say? Being chronically ill, I need that by the bucket load! This is different from what I expected. I thought it would be full of invigorating citrus or minty notes but I was pleasantly surprised! It's actually quite woody and earthy with a hint of citrus, thanks to the blend of bergamot, myrtle oil and cashmere wood, among others. It didn't give me bucketloads of energy but I think it's a great everyday scent that made me feel happy every time I sprayed it!

Calm Bliss: From the notes (bergamot, neroli, orange flower, white musk and lavender among others), I expected to love this but I actually really disliked it!  Far from calming, there are too many differing notes going on here that it just irritated me and was another one that I washed off. I just cannot fathom how this is supposed to be either calming or blissful but that's the thing about fragrance - it's very subjective. I just felt that the notes were too contradictory. A definite no from me!

Cosmic Power:  This is a very heavy fragrance, one that someone who wants people to ask what they're wearing might like (I'd ask so that I could avoid it!). If you like rich, gourmand scents then this might be for you but it's a hard pass for me! Some of the notes include cinnamon bark oil, black pepper oil, frankincense, amber, musk and vanilla bean. It's just too much and could easily give me a headache.

I'm glad that I bought the set. I really like Magic Energy, Love Energy and More Sex, but enough to buy a full size bottle? Possibly.

Personally, I think that releasing six fragrances at once may have been too daring. Some blends seem rushed and thrown together and they didn't emote the right response in me, but I am very fussy wiuth my fragrances. I think that if I do buy one, I'll start with a 10ml and take it from there.

Have any of these captured your attention? I'd love to hear!

Available from Charlotte Tilbury, Sephora, Cult Beauty, Space NK and Brown Thomas.
