I actually feel that over the past year or two (maybe longer), I've developed beauty fatigue and by that I mean that I'm a bit over new release upon new release, day after day. It takes a lot to pique my interest these days because a lot of brands seem to just churn out products. Some go viral and then disappear, others retain their hype - but are they worth the hype? Today, I'm choosing 10 very hyped beauty products and telling you whether I think they deserve that status. This may become a series! I would really love to hear your thoughts on the products too...
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream: One of the most hyped skincare products from one of the most hyped beauty brands! I have to say that I take the claims of percentage improvements with a massive pinch of salt because I don't know how they would even quantify the claims. That being said, I love this moisturiser. The story goes that Charlotte used this backstage at fashion shows for years and was always asked what the magic potion was and eventually, when she started her brand, this was one of the products that she made. The first few times I used it, I wasn't really the biggest fan - probably because it was so hyped and I was expecting miracles, but the more I have used it over the years, the more I love it. It preps the skin so well for makeup, but apart from that as a standalone moisturiser, I love how plump and elasticized it makes my skin feel and how radiant it looks when I use this. In my opinion, it's totally worth the hype!
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter: When this was first released, people were confused as to whether it was a foundation, a tinted moisturiser or some sort of base product. It can be used in several ways and some people do use it as a foundation but in my opinion, it's too glowy to be worn as a foundation, unless powdered. I like to use it under my foundation to lift my complexion and I'll sometimes add a little to the high points of my cheekbones over my foundation for a little pop. It does add a little coverage but what I love most about it is that it has a blurring effect, which is something that you don't normally get with a glowy product - a lot seem to enhance pores and any texture on the skin. I can definitely see a difference in my makeup between the times that I wear this under my base and when I don't. It's a must have product for me, which is again, totally worth the hype!
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk range: It started with a lip pencil, which went viral and I have repurchased many, many times, then came the lipstick, then eyeshadow quads, lip glosses, eyeshadow creams, blushes, face palettes and more. I was delighted when the lipstick was extended from just one 'universal' shade, to Pillow Talk Medium and Pillow Talk Intense because there can never really be one lipstick that will suit everyone. Personally, I have skipped some of the releases because I knew they wouldn't suit me, but I really love some of the products and they are regulars in my routine. For me, this is worth the hype, however I can see that some people might think "enough already".
Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wands: The final products in today's post from this brand are these blush/contour/highlights in a tube. I love these and own maybe four or five. They give the cheeks a very glowy look and can be layered for more intensity. Liquid and cream products suit my skin because it's so dry and these blend seamlessly into the skin. The only negative is how messy they get around the applicator area, which I have seen a lot of people complain about but it doesn't stop us from buying them! Worth the hype!
By Terry CC Serum: The key to this product is getting the right shade to suit your skin tone. The first time I tried this, I hated it but I had the wrong colour and I couldn't see the hype at all because it seemed to highlight texture and show pores that I didn't even know I had! I gave it a few goes and then gave it away. Everybody kept raving about it for years after my first debacle with it so I decided to give it another go but in a different shade (minis are available and a great way to try it without spending an excessive amount of money). This time, I got the hype. My skin looked radiant and healthy and it's so lightweight that it's unnoticeable on the skin. Worth the hype (in the right shade!).
Hourglass Powders and Blush: This is an expensive brand but if you are interested in trying the powders and blushes, the limited edition festive palettes are worth the investment, or even better, mini powders and blushes are available. I love the marble effect of the blushes because they double as a highlight and blush if you're not into wearing a separate highlighter. The powders have some sort of magic in them because they diffuse the appearance of pores and give the skin a polished look and somehow just pull a look together. Expensive, but worth the hype!
Rodial Banana LowLighter: So many people rave about this and I watched so many YouTubers use it (most had a promo code so I knew it was an ad, however that doesn't necessarily mean they don't love it). When I saw people with very dark circles use this alone (without a separate concealer underneath), and saw the brightness it gave, I had to try it. I can confirm that it works! A tiny amount is required and it's so pigmented that you think that it will be impossible to buff into the skin without looking like you have bright circles rather than dark ones, but it really works. Dark circles disappear and it looks so natural on the skin, doesn't settle into fine lines and doesn't budge. It's a must have and totally worth the hype for me!
Nars Orgasm Blush: The original viral blush that is still going strong and the only blush that I've repurchased twice! It was the only blush I wore for years because the peachy pink really suits my skin tone. I find that I look so much healthier when wearing this because it helps me glow, is the right shade for me and also has tiiiiny highlight particles in it, which lift the complexion. A big thumbs up and a totally worth the hype from me!
Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Lip Balm: These went viral last year and with good reason. The easiest way to get the feel of a balm, a hint of colour and some volume and gloss. I wear the shade Mist as it's a natural pink, which is close to my lip colour, easy to wear and top up. These aren't cheap but for the comfort and finish, I think they're worth the hype!
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray: A classic and a must have product in the makeup bags of so many! If you want your makeup to be bulletproof, you need this in your life! Ideal for oily skin (there's also a matte version available), evenings out, humid holiday nights, long wedding days or events where you need your makeup to stay in place. This is the product for you! Also available in a mini and there's a Vitamin C version available too, although I'm yet to try that. Again, totally worth. the hype!
As you can tell, I think that all of these products are worth the hype, which is why I am going to make this into a series because not all hyped products are worth it. I would love to hear your thoughts! Which products didn't live up to the hype for you?
