August is usually my favourite month of the year because it's my birthday on the 8th (no coincidence that 8 is my favourite number!), my niece's birthday and yesterday was our wedding anniversary! As you read this, we'll be in Prague celebrating. It's been a city I've wanted to visit for a long time and my husband surprised me by booking it! That being said, August this year has been a sad month for me as my cat, and constant companion, died. I'm still getting used to him not being by my side constantly and miss him terribly. People who don't have pets don't understand their importance - they aren't just animals but a constant source of unlimited love and companionship. I know that he'd hate for me to be sad so I've been trying to keep busy, to watch shows that make me laugh and to wear beautiful fragrances and use gorgeous products daily. So, what have I loved this month?
Our holiday in Majorca: It seems so long ago now because we found out that our cat died on our way back to the airport, so the holiday became a distant memory in an instant. That being said, we did enjoy a lovely week here and it was thankfully very sunny, which was very welcome after our washout week in Rhodes earlier in the summer! I like that Majorca is a short flight from Dublin, we knew the hotel as we had stayed there before, it was very close to the beach and the air conditioning was amazing!
The Perseid Meteor Shower: I read that the best time to see this display was between 10pm and midnight on August 13th (I actually found it to be better from 11pm onwards) and I am fortunate enough to live in a rural area so the display was pretty spectacular. I didn't take any photographs because I just wanted to be present and to enjoy it. The sky was so black with so many bright stars and although I'm told that meteors aren't actually shooting stars, it looked pretty magical to me.
Beauty:
Parfums De Marly Delina: My hairdresser recommended this to me in February/March time and I have wanted it ever since but it's quite pricey and I couldn't justify buying for myself for no reason. I was very kindly treated to it by my husband as one of my birthday gifts and I'm in love! I keep receiving so many compliments and being asked to write down the name of it for people when I wear it. It is just on the right side of sweet, with notes of Turkish rose and peony, balanced with rhubarb, vanilla and musk amongst other notes. It's not just sweet, nor is it just warm or powdery, it's a combination of all of these things, which makes it unique. The wear time is excellent and I only need two or three sprays maximum to last me all day. I also love the bottle!
Dior Dioriviera: When going through Duty Free before catching our flight to Majorca, I sprayed some of this on a card and I loved it so much that I kept it on my bedside locker for the week and my husband ordered it for me so it was waiting at home on our return. It's a beautiful combination of fig and roses, which is soft and fresh. I personally don't think it's just a summer fragrance and plan on wearing it regularly over the coming months. It isn't cheap but it's totally worth it and again, I get a lot of compliments when wearing it.
YSL Faux Cils Mascara: This has been a staple in my makeup bag for well over 20 years and I still love it! I'm so pleased to be back to my natural lashes and can achieve the false lash look with this mascara - I was actually asked last week if I had my lash extensions put back on!
No. 7 Future Renew Range*: I have a full review of this range coming very soon, so I won't go into too much detail here but there are four products in the range, all aimed at reversing the signs of ageing and sun damage. As I have said previously, I am not anti ageing as I see getting older as a privilege denied to many, however there's nothing wrong with keeping my skin looking as good as it can for as long as I can. Keep your eyes peeled for the full review coming within days.
TV:
Hijack (Apple TV): We haven't watched a lot of TV this month (apart from the World Athletics Championships, which we loved and I watch some re-runs of shows that would make me laugh), but we binge watched this series in one afternoon/evening. We're not good at watching shows weekly, especially thrillers. As the name suggests, this is about a plane being hijacked and the flight time is just under 7 hours long and there are 7 episodes. Idris Elba plays the main character who tries to reason with the hijackers, while others try to attack them (to no avail). I won't say too much in case you haven't watched it but if you like thrillers, but not ones that are too nail-biting, then you'll enjoy this, and seven episodes was the perfect number to enjoy it without it being dragged out too much.
So that's everything! I'd love to hear what you loved this month and if you're looking forward to Autumn?
