My skin is in serious need of all of the glow-giving products at the moment and today I'm focusing on primers. I know that some people see primers as an unnecessary extra step, but I can't apply foundation without using a primer first. I generally go for either a hydrating one or else a glowy option and even better if it offers both. Here are my top five glow giving primers....
Armani Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer: I've loved the foundation in this range for around 15 years so it made sense that I would try this primer at some point and I'm now on my third tube. It has a gel cream texture that requires only a small amount for a smooth, hydrating and glowy base for any foundation, but pairs particularly beautifully with the matching foundation. It gives the skin a radiant finish that looks like healthy skin, but doesn't have a discoball effect.
Rare Beauty Always An Optimist Illuminating Primer: Love from first use! I have a full review of products from the brand in this post. Again, this has a gel cream texture and it feels soothing on the skin. It looks like a highlighter initially but blends into the skin and looks more natural and luminous without being overly dewy - just lit from within. It absorbs so easily and works well with all foundations.
First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Priming Moisturizing Primer*: I love this because it's ideal to wear alone on dull skin days but also works great as a primer because it really gives a smooth and hydrated base. It doesn't pill and I find that all foundations work well over it. On no makeup days, it brightens the complexion, however it doesn't look fake and pearlescent. Currently reduced on Look Fantastic and my BEAUTYLYMIN code will give you a further saving.
Natasha Denona Hy-Gen Skinglass Energizing & Hydrating Primer Serum: This can be used as either a primer or serum - both luminizing. It has a slightly tacky feeling so I find that products layer well over it but it works particularly good as a primer as foundation lasts really well over it, plus it also gives the skin a glass effect. That said, I don't find that it highlights any areas of texture or pores. If you like the modern glass finish to the skin, which looks especially good with the minimal clean girl makeup look. Erborian CC Dull Correct*: This corrector has a light purple tone and this counteracts any dullness in the skin. It's brilliant for dull skin days, which I've been having a lot of over the past few months, particularly in April when I was very ill. This is an easy way to brighten the skin but it also hydrates, which helps the skin look plump.
Have you tried any of these primers? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
