A fragrance gift guide for men

A fragrance gift guide for men

Welcome to my final gift guide! I had some messages asking if I was going to do one for men, and I do buy for a lot of men but their tastes are specific - golfing, jumpers, thermals, and the one thing that all of the men in my life love is a new aftershave, so I've put together my top six today. Don't forget that you can use the code BEAUTYLYMIN to receive a 21% discount on any of these which are available on Look Fantastic and there is still time for Christmas delivery!

Dior Sauvage: Probably my favourite male fragrance of all time! It's both fresh and spicy, with notes of bergamot, pepper, vetiver, patchouli (for some warmth), geranium and more. It's quite an intense scent, so you don't need to use a lot and it lasts well on the skin. I love smelling my husband's neck hours after he has sprayed it, as I can still smell it. It's strong, but not overbearing and is a very sensual fragrance. What's very handy at this time of year is that some bottles are pre-wrapped, which saves some work and they also look better than my own wrapping!

Tom Ford Beau De Jour Eau De Parfum: I came across this after buying the body spray for my husband last summer, which was surprisingly strongly scented and lasted really well. He loved it so much that I bought this for his Christmas stocking. Although this is a very masculine scent, the top notes are lavender and lavender extract, but don't let that put you off because it doesn't smell like a pillow spray - it's spicy, fresh, warm - it's everything all at once and yet it's distinctive and the patchouli and amber base makes it a smooth scent. It is one that will receive compliments, for sure.

Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche: There are a number of variations of this fragrance, but this is the best in my opinion and if you didn't like the original, don't let that put you off. This is more of a summer fragrance, but it's sexy all year round! It combines notes of citrus, vanilla, musk, pepper and cedarwood among others. You can kind of see a running theme here in the type of scents I like, but this one is lighter than the others, fresher and the citrus notes make it the perfect daytime, or summer, scent.

Chanel Bleu De Chanel: Similar to Sauvage, as in it's citrusy, spicy and warm, yet it's a little smoother and creamier overall, plus a little under-stated. It's suitable for both day and night wear and lasts very well on the skin. If the person you're buying for loves Sauvage but you want to try something different, go for this one!

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male: A classic for a reason! It has been around for 27 years, yet doesn't feel old. This is a very warm, sensual fragrance with notes of vanilla, cardamom, lavender (a running theme in some of these fragrance although it's less noticeable in this scent), sandalwood and bergamot. It smells musky (but in a clean way), warm (due to the vanilla), and inviting. It isn't overpowering and lasts well on the skin.

Armani Code Parfum*: I love that this is now refillable ( as are a lot of the fragrances from this brand). A recent reformulation, which I love as it still has the woody and powdery scent of the original, yet the addition of Iris, combined with the Cedarwood and Clary Sage, make for a very masculine, fresh yet warm scent. It's quite subtle and lasts for a good 8 hours on the skin.

Do you buy fragrances for the men in your life, or is it a bit too cliched for you? I love buying fragrances but I know that they can be very personal. If there's one that you know a person loves, but you want to buy them something new, it's best to go for something similar than something completely different in my opinion, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
