July was a mixed month for me, but overall, a good one. We've had some good weather (although nothing like the temperatures seen in the UK and Europe!), which means barbecues, getting heat into my bones and being outside more. Today's post is about everything I've loved over this past month.
TV/Cinema:
Wimbledon: I absolutely love Wimbledon, and have done since I was a child. It's on my bucket list to go some year! This year, so many of the big names went out in the first and second rounds, so it was nice to see some new people whose names will become more familiar in future years. I really wanted Rafael Nadal to win the Men's Championship and was gutted when he had to pull out due to injury, which gave Nick Kyrgios a pass to the final. I'm not really a fan of the latter, as he seems so disrespectful to the umpires and other players, but in the final, I was kind of rooting for him because I love an underdog, but experience won out in the end.
Elvis: I absolutely loved this film! I usually hate seeing people imitating Elvis, but Austin Butler did an absolutely amazing job, and he even sang the songs when he portrayed a younger Elvis, with his voice being blended for the older version. I don't believe that we will ever see the likes of Elvis again - he certainly was a one-off. The film tells the story of his life, from when his manager discovered him (he was his meal ticket, as he was a gambling addict), and Elvis being young and naive, signed a contract, which gave 50% of his earnings to his manager. The film shows his life with his parents, then later Priscilla, and shows how drugs entered his life, only for him to become addicted. We all know that it's a sad story of an absolutely huge talent dying far too young, but the intricacies are shown in the film. The fame, the love, the chemistry, the sadness, the frustrations and more, are all portrayed so beautifully and intimately. It's a long film, but one that I would highly recommend watching.
Beauty:
Viktor & Rolf Good Fortune*: I was kindly sent this fragrance and as soon as I sprayed it, my husband said that it smelled smooth and warm, which is a good description! Would you believe that it took 10 years to get this fragrance exactly right? I was shocked at first, but then I thought about Flowerbomb and what a classic it is, so the brand obviously wants its fragrances to last, rather than be trend-driven. When I saw that fennel was one of the top notes, I was hesitant because I really don't like it, however I don't smell it in this fragrance. It is combined with gentian flower, which is floral (obviously), but not overly so, as it's also musky. It also contains jasmine and vanilla. It isn't overly sweet, but it is warm, so when my husband said smooth and warm, he was spot on. As with all Viktor & Rolf fragrances, the bottle is beautiful. It's designed to look like a fortune teller's crystal ball, with an amethyst lid. It's 100% recyclable and made with 15% recycled glass, plus it's refillable. If you're in the market for a new fragrance, I would highly recommend checking this out. Available in 10, 30, 50 and 90ml bottles, with a 100ml refill (save 21% if you buy on Look Fantastic using my code BEAUTYLYMIN).
Charlotte Tilbury Angel Alessandra lipstick: I bought this in the Cult Beauty sale, which was pretty epic this year! It's a beautiful peachy-coral shade that is perfect for summer, as it livens up the complexion and looks great with a (fake) tan. The formula is creamy and comfortable, with the wear time being around 3 hours, which is pretty standard for a creamy formula. I don't know why I hadn't noticed this shade before, but I'm loving it!
Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak: Another Cult Beauty sale purchase, although I've bought it several times previously. This would be ideal for those who are aching after workouts, but I'm just aching in general! The scent is quite medicinal - rosemary, cloves and thyme, and the aroma just fills the room. Sinking into the bath feels like a warm hug and I find that I instantly de-stress and I just close my eyes and let my body totally relax. It would be a perfect gift for any busy parents because you can't help but unwind when you use it. I'm tempted to buy a backup while it's reduced.
I'd love to hear how your July has been and what you loved most? I'm looking forward to August as it's my birthday and our wedding anniversary, so it's always a special month!
