Sorry for the longer than expected break from the blog. If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that my flight home from holiday was delayed by 2 days, which really threw me out last week! All of the plans I had for the week were up in the air, I needed to get a new nebuliser as mine broke while on holiday, and despite having a really restful week, those two days of going to and from the airport, not knowing what was happening, just left me exhausted, so I decided to take some time to catch up on everything (sleep/laundry/seeing family/catching up on Love Island etc), before coming back to the blog. I have lots of posts planned and am looking forward to hearing how you all are, so today's the day that I finally get back into it!
For me, summer hasn't arrived unless I have a bottle of Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess! It could be raining most days (and generally is in Ireland), but as soon as I smell Bronze Goddess, I'm instantly transported to a sunny beach, feeling relaxed and happy, which is why I even bought it during the lockdowns - I could at least pretend to be somewhere more exotic than the garden, even if I wasn't! Each year, there are some variations or additions to the original fragrance, and this year it's Bronze Goddess Nuit Eau De Parfum, which intrigued me, as not only is the bottle beautiful, but it includes some warmer notes. I wanted to compare it to the original and give you my opinion as to whether you actually need both in your life.....
Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche Skinscent: Most people just describe this as summer in a bottle, but that can mean lots of different things to different people - for some, summer makes people think of aquatic notes, for others, it's lemons from Southern Italy, so why does this get the blanket "summer in a bottle" description? It's the combination of notes of coconut, amber, vanilla (think sun creams or pina colada cocktails), combined with bergamot, orange and lemons (classic fresh notes), that create a fragrance that is warm, comforting, relaxing, and reminiscent of a sunny day/evening. I know that as soon as I smell it, if I close my eyes, I could be on a white sandy beach in the Caribbean, and I am forever receiving compliments when I wear it, with people also being reminded of holidays. I may not look like a bronze goddess, but I sure smell like one when I wear this. The wear time isn't the longest - maybe 4/5 hours, however there is also an Eau De Parfum available, which will last longer on the skin. Bronze Goddess Nuit Eau De Parfum: First up, I have to say that I love the bottle, which is reminiscent of a sunset at the beach, with the ombré blue into yellow look. This is described as being a deeper, smouldering edition of the original, and I agree. I can still smell coconut, but it's saltier, plus the warmth of the tonka, ylang ylang and cashmere, make it more suited to evening wear. It really is one that feels sexier on than the original; one that people will lean in and breathe in, as it's sensual without being too heavy.
I wore both on my holiday - the original, I sprayed onto my clothes, or beach towel to freshen it up, rather than directly on to my skin, as I didn't want anything to break down my SPF, and the new version in the evenings. I received compliments on both. In my weaker moments of forgetting what a nightmare the airports were at both ends, when I'm tempted to book another holiday, I spray one of these on myself, and that satisfies the urge.... for the moment! If the airport situation improves, I'll be booking another sunny holiday and these will be straight into my hand luggage (can't risk them going missing!). In the meantime, I'll be wearing them here, because this really is a range that I am addicted to, and I'm happy that the night version has been added to the lineup!
Are you a Bronze Goddess fan? What scent instantly reminds you of holidays?
