Biossance Squalane and Amino Aloe Gentle Cleanser Review

Biossance Squalane and Amino Aloe Gentle Cleanser Review

Biossance is a brand that I have only tried a small number of products from, but have loved everything I've tried, so when I saw that they had released their new Squalane and Amino Aloe Gentle Cleanser, I couldn't resist buying it (even though I have a lot of cleansers to get though!). I thought that it might be perfect as we change seasons. I love that their products contain squalane, as it is super hydrating, and really suits my dry skin. It also saves 2 million sharks every year, because it's sugar-cane derived, rather than coming from the livers of sharks. I'm not particularly into the whole "clean" beauty movement (or it's more a case of brands saying that their products are clean, as opposed to other 'dirty' brands - I think it's a little unnecessary, but each to their own), however this is definitely better for the planet. So, how has the cleanser been working for me?

The cleanser is described as being suitable for all skin types, as it's hydrating and gentle. It is a gel formula, which is foaming, and it claims that the Amino Complex is what makes it suitable for all skin types, as this is what breaks down all dirt, pollutants, sebum etc, but does so in a gentle way, so there is no need to scrub vigorously, or use harsh products. To balance this foaming, deep cleanse, it contains aloe vera leaf juice, which is hydrating and soothing, and, of course, squalane, which is really nourishing. From the description, despite my general lack of fondness for foaming cleansers, I thought that this would be a great morning cleanser, or second cleanse.

I love that it has a pump, plus it's great value, as a little goes a long way. To use, I dampen my skin, then massage a pump of the cleanser into my face and neck, until it lathers and I feel that my skin has been completely cleansed, before rinsing thoroughly.

Being completely honest, I'm a little disappointed by this cleanser, as my skin feels a little tight after use, which I really didn't expect, given the ingredient lineup. As I said, I'm not the biggest fan of foaming cleansers, but when rinsed thoroughly, I expect my skin not to feel tight. Now don't get me wrong, it isn't super-tight, but if I don't mist and continue with my hydrating routine immediately, my skin begins to feel uncomfortable. I can balance it by layering hydrating mists, essences and serums, before my moisturiser, but I can't help but feel disappointed.

It hasn't put me off trying other products from the brand, and I hope they release a cleansing balm, which I would definitely try. In the meantime, I'll probably pass this over to my husband, as he has combination skin, so I'd be curious to hear his thoughts.

For me, it's a miss, and I wouldn't recommend it to those with dry skin. However, I would love to hear the opinion of those with oily/normal/combination skin types.

Are you a fan of Biossance? Have you tried this cleanser?
