Out of all of the Pixi skincare ranges, I think that the rose infused one is my favourite (review here), so I was absolutely delighted to receive a package with some new products a few weeks ago! There are four products; some skincare, some makeup, but they could be a hybrid of both. I want to talk you through them today and explain why some are hits and some are misses for me.
Essence Oil: I love an essence and I love oils, so it was kinda expected that I would love this product! It contains Rose Water, Rose Oil and Ceramides, and is tri-phase, so you need to really shake the bottle to ensure that everything is mixed, before dispensing. I love that it has a pipette, so that exactly the right amount can be used, as it's quite runny. the description says that it's the perfect base for makeup, which is correct when it comes to dry skin like mine, however I don't know if that would be the case for all skin types. That said, it isn't at all greasy, and it's the blend of the water, oil and ceramides that make it perfect for a base product, as it's lightweight on the skin, yet hydrates and nourishes. For those with a normal or combination skin type, this might work well as a moisturiser, and you could skip the primer. Petra (the lady who created the brand) recommends using this over makeup throughout the day, when it's in need of some extra nourishment, but that doesn't work for me. That being said, on no makeup days, it works well as a top up, if my skin is feeling a little tight. It's a hit!
Lip Nourisher: I love lip balms that have a hint of colour, which this one has. I'm bit of a lip balm addict and at the moment, I find myself applying it every hour or so, as I'm ill and my lips are ultra dry. This balm contains Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E, but is a little stiff initially and is nowhere near as nourishing as many other lip balms I own. Maybe when the weather warm up, it will soften a little and work in the way that I expected it to, given the ingredients, which include Jojoba Oil as well as the afore-mentioned Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E. I'm disappointed by this, but will give it another go when the warmer months appear. It's a miss!
Radiance Perfector: The description of this is a little confusing, as I assumed it was a primer, as it says it is used to blur and brighten skin, yet the directions say to apply it to the high points of the face, as a highlighter, so I'm confused! I use it all over my face, as a primer, and it does blur and soften the appearance of fine lines and pores, despite having a pearlescent finish. It feels nourishing and a good base for makeup, or for makeup free days (I wouldn't use it in conjunction with the essence oil as a base though). The only issue that some people have is that it's pink-toned, so I don't know how it will look on darker skin tones. It's a hit (for me).
Glow-y Powder: I generally love Pixi highlighters, as the formula is so smooth and buttery and they apply like a second skin. This can be used as a blush or highlighter (depending on your skin tone), or even as a blush topper. It is infused with Rose extract, jojoba, and ceramides, so it applies smoothly, but it's far too glittery for me to use as either a blush or highlighter. I can use it on my eyes, with my finger, on the centre of the lid, but for the face, it's a no-no. That being said, I think that those with younger, line-free skin will love it, as I know I would have back in the day. It's a miss (for me).
As you can tell, it's a bit of a mixed bag for me, but that's not to say that others wouldn't enjoy the products that are a skip for me. The Essence Oil is definitely my favourite product and I know that I'll use every last drop!
I'd love to hear your thoughts? Have you tried any of these products? Do any of them appeal to you?
