Three chemical body exfoliators and body lotions that work to get rid of bumpy, chicken skin!

Three chemical body exfoliators and body lotions that work to get rid of bumpy, chicken skin!

I don't know about you, but my Keratosis Pilaris seems to get worse at this time of year. For me, it's mainly on my upper arms, but some people have it on their thighs, bum, and other areas. It doesn't cause my skin to itch, but I like my skin to feel soft and smooth, so I will do whatever it takes to get rid of it. Fortunately, things have come a long way from abrasive scrubs that we used back in the day, and there are now a number of products on the market that can eliminate this irritating condition, which is essentially blocked hair follicles. It's definitely a first world problem in the grand scheme of things, but one that bothers me, so if I can get rid of it, I will!

Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion* and Softening Bath Milk Oil*: You will have seen this brand on the blog several times over the past few years - some products have been sent to me, and others I've purchased myself, because I find the brand to be very effective in keeping my skin smooth and soft, but the key is consistency. The key ingredient in this line is Lactic Acid, which is a gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acid - this is what exfoliates and renews the skin. What I love about this line, is that it also includes Sweet Almond Oil, which nourishes the skin, so the result is smooth, but also soft skin. Some people don't like the scent of Lactic Acid, but they also sell and unscented version, and limited edition scents too. The bath milk oil is just one of the other body products in the range, and I love it because it's soothing, moisturising and leaves my skin super soft. When I use this and then follow with the body lotion, I know that my skin will be super soft.....not immediately, but within a couple of weeks. It's definitely important to keep the use up, in order to see the results, but once you do, skin will be completely bump-free.

Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Glycolic Body Lotion: This was recommended by Skincare Steve, who said that it left his skin feeling soft from first use, so I had to buy it! Although it has Glycolic in the name, it also contains Tartartic, Lactic and Citric Acids, which combines to 10% AHAs. It might sound like it would strip the skin, but it also contains plant oils and shea butters, among others, which nourish the skin. Out of all three products in this post, this is the one that gives results the fastest, so if you are going on holiday, or have a special event approaching soon, I'd recommend getting onto this straight away! People may think it's expensive for a body lotion, but you only need to use it on affected areas and then use a budget body lotion elsewhere.

First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub with 10% AHA* and Smoothing Body Lotion with 10% AHA: The scrub combines both chemical and physical exfoliators, in the form of Glycolic and Lactic Acids, with Pumice Buffing Beads, which are very fine and gentle, so there is no fear of them tearing the skin. This scrub can be used once or twice weekly, depending on what your skin can tolerate, but also, how bumpy it is. I love that it feels gentle, yet it's very effective. This is then followed with the accompanying body lotion, which contains 10% lactic acid, as well as ceramides, urea and colloidal oatmeal, all of which are both soothing and nourishing, leaving the skin smooth and soft. I found that it took around a week's use to see full results, which is pretty quick. I use the scrub all over my body, but keep the lotion for my upper arms, to make it last longer.

Do you have 'chicken skin'? Have you tried any of these products? If not, I recommend getting on to it straight away, and remember that you have to keep using the products, or the issue will return!
