I remember when the first version of YSL Touche Êclat foundation was released, I was SO excited, because I had used the conceal/highlighting pen for years. I absolutely loved how the foundation looked on my skin - it gave it a healthy, fresh glow, with medium coverage. It ticked all boxes, but it broke my skin out so badly! I was so gutted, because it looked amazing on, but there was no way I could use it regularly. I have used other YSL foundations since the, but without this issue, so I was excited when I read about the new Touche Êclat Le Teint foundation, which has been reformulated. So, how does my skin like this newer version, and what has changed?
First up, I have to mention the luxe packaging, which is what I've come to expect from YSL products. The bottle is heavy glass, so it doesn't feel like it'll smash if I drop it. I love the gold lid, with the black logo, and the product name - you just know that you're holding a luxurious product.
There are 30 shades available in a range of undertones, and if you are unsure which will be your best match, you can take advantage of their 1-to-1 virtual consultations. It contains SPF 22, which seems a bit random but I'm happy if a foundation contains SPF, which doesn't replace a separate product, but any extra protection is a bonus.
The texture is a light fluid, yet it isn't overly watery, so you have time to work it into your skin without worrying that it will drop off your face. 1 pumps gives me light coverage, 2 pumps gives me medium coverage, which is my preference as it still looks very natural,, but you could build up to fuller coverage if that is what you like, particularly in certain areas, where pigmentation is an issue.
The finish reminds me of Armani Luminous Silk, which, as the name suggests, gives the skin a luminous finish, yet it isn't overly dewy or glowy - it just looks like radiant skin. I'm not crazy about using the word flawless to describe skin, as I really don't think there is such a thing and I think we should be happy in our own skin - we might see imperfections, but others probably don't. I don't strive for perfection, but just for my skin to look the best it can. That being said, this foundation does give the skin a pretty flawless look! It glides over pores and fine lines, doesn't cling to dry patches, gives a gentle 'lit from within' look and also evens out skin tone - and that's before you even reach for a concealer or any other base products.
What I really love about this foundation is how lightweight it is - you don't feel like you're wearing any base and I have found it to be pretty transfer-proof. As the day goes on, skin doesn't feel tighter, because it contains hydrating properties, so this would be the perfect base for brides or anyone who has a long day where they want their makeup to stay put, without the need to keep powdering, and it's particularly great if you have dry or dehydrated skin, which normally sucks the moisture from your foundation into your skin, leaving it patchy. I have found the wear time to be excellent - a good 9/10 hours is the longest I have worn it, although it does claim to last for 24 hours (I don't know anyone who wears their makeup for 24 hours!).
Most importantly for me, it hasn't broken me out at all! I am absolutely delighted because I can get the natural, yet luminous, look that I want, which will hydrate my skin and not budge, feels weightless, AND my skin loves it! If you had the same issue with the original, I would urge you to give this one a try.
Available from YSL, Brown Thomas, Arnotts, Feel Unique and Look Fantastic.
