Seasonal switch up: moisturisers for dry skin

Seasonal switch up: moisturisers for dry skin

As the seasons change, some components of my skincare routine also change - moisturisers being the main one. I know that I have quite a few moisturisers in this post, but you really only need one! Being a beauty blogger, I'm lucky enough to be sent products, but even before blogging, I switched my moisturiser seasonally (and sometimes serums too).  Because my skin is dry, I generally use quite rich moisturisers in Autumn and Winter and switch to something a little lighter in Spring and I have some great options to share with you today, for both day and night.

Day:

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion*: I never, ever thought that a gel moisturiser could possibly be hydrating and nourishing enough for my dry skin, but this has completely changed my mind! It contains peptides, ceramides and hyaluronic acid, among other nourishing ingredients, which strengthen and protect the skin's barrier, while also hydrating the skin. It is said to hydrate the skin for 72 hours, but I can't vouch for that, as I wouldn't ever go 72 hours without applying more moisturising products. You would expect from what I've described, that this lotion would be heavy, but it's actually not and it also layers well with other products and acts well as a base for makeup too. A great all rounder, for all skin types.

Clinique iD™ Dramatically Different Hydrating Clearing Jelly*: This is a genius and innovative moisturiser option for all skin types, as you have a hydrating jelly base, and then you add a cartridge of product, depending on your skin type - dull skin, uneven skin tone, or the one I have is for irritated skin. So, when you pump, you have a combination of the hydrating moisturising jelly, mixed with the concentrated amount of whatever you need, depending on your skin's concern. This will work for me in Spring/Summer, but those with combination or oily skin could use it all year round. The jelly base contains Salicylic Acid, which helps to smooth the skin by deeply penetrating pores and dissolving sebum, thereby eliminating (or at least diminishing) the chance of black or whiteheads appearing.

Belif The True Cream Moisturising Bomb: A K-Beauty brand, that I love and wish was more widely available. This moisturiser instantly soothes the skin when applied, which is perfect for irritated or inflamed skin. It contains panthenol and oat extract, both of which cool and hydrate the skin. The texture is rich, but it melts into the skin immediately, to leave it feeling supple and nourished. We need this brand to be available on some UK and Irish sites!

Clinique Moisture Surge 72 Hour Auto Replenishing Hydrator*: This has a gorgeous gel/cream hybrid texture, that instantly soothes the skin, as well as hydrating it. It absorbs immediately, yet the effects can be felt for hours (hence the 72 hours in the name). I find that it really quenches my skin's thirst, due to the hyaluronic and cica it contains. It's lightweight, and is perfect to wear on hot, humid days (remember those?!), as it won't slide off your face, and is a great base for makeup that normally disappears on thirsty skin. There is a new 100 hour version available that I will have to try this summer!

Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream*: This is the perfect summer moisturiser because it's cooling upon application. It's a gel-cream hybrd, with a bouncy texture, which contains two types of hyaluronic acid, squalane and sodium-BCA. This combination melts into the skin and leaves it feeling soft, plump and firm, with a slightly dewy finish. It really is a dreamy moisturiser that I think all skin types would enjoy.

Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Oil-Free Moisture Cushion: This moisturiser isn't nourishing enough for me in Autumn/Winter, but it's perfect for Spring/Summer. The texture is lightweight, it contains hyaluronic acid, as the name suggests, but also amino acids, marine algae and B Vitamins. It feels cooling on he skin, absorbs immediately and layers well with other products. If your skin is extremely dry and flaky, I recommend adding a drop or two of your favourite oil.

Night:

Antipodes Probiotic Night Recovery Water Cream*: I love Antipodes (brand focus post here) and this is a new addition to the lineup. It is the perfect calming moisturiser to use at night, if your skin is stressed and irritated, or just in need of some 'juice'. Water cream is the perfect name for it, as feels like a drink of water, which quenches your skin's thirst, but it's also ultra-nourishing, as it contains oils (macadamia, avocado pear, sunflower, carrot seed and more), as well as Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil and Glycerin. You wake to plump, dewy skin, that feels comfortable and looks calm.

Have you tried any of these moisturisers? Do you tend to switch up your skincare seasonally? I'd love to hear!
