I remember my mother slathering Garnier Ambre Solaire sunscreen all over us as kids, so I've always had a soft spot for the brand. Recently, they have added some new additions to their sunscreen range, and I was kindly sent the Anti-Dark Spots & Anti Pollution Super UV 50+ Facial Sunscreen* to try. I actually chose this from their selection, because I really want to use products that target dark spots, as I have one stubborn patch on my face, and as I age, it's inevitable that more will appear and I want to try to prevent that from happening as much as I can!
I am extremely fussy when it comes to facial sunscreen because I used so many over the years that broke me out, or burnt my skin, so it takes a lot for me to sway from my usual one that I have used for a good 7/8 years. That said, because I have used this brand before, I was definitely willing to give it a go, particularly because of the anti-dark spot properties, but also because it contains Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E, both of which are moisturising.
It contains both UVA and UVB protection and claims to be long-wearing, however I always top my SPF up during the day anyway (unless it's a day where I'm really ill and in bed all day with the curtains pulled), but even on regular duvet/lazy days, I'll top my SPF up.
The texture is very lightweight and it absorbs quickly and easily. I always wait around 10 minutes after I finish my skincare before applying my SPF, so that I know it won't be diluted, and that my skincare is well absorbed. There are days when I don't wear anything over it and it doesn't pill. It also works well under makeup, as it doesn't feel greasy on the skin, so it doesn't disturb my base.
Whilst Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant, which helps to protect from damage from free radicals, and future sun damage, I don't think that this SPF will do anything for existing dark spots - your skincare products will have to do that work. That said, I am happy to use a product that will prevent further patches from appearing and if you are fortunate enough not to have any dark spots yet, start using this! I will admit that I was late to the party when it comes to wearing SPF daily (yes, even in dull, rainy Ireland!), but there was little-to-no information in that regard when I was a teenager, or even in my early twenties. It's just part of my routine now, and always will be.
Overall, I really like this sunscreen - I like the texture, the fact that it's moisturising and it doesn't break me out. It's also affordable and is widely available. A big thumbs up from me!
Do you have any dark spots? Were you late to the daily SPF party too? I'd love to hear!
