The 6 best foundations for dry skin featuring Pat McGrath, By Terry, IT Cosmetics and more!

 

Having dry skin makes it quite tricky to find the right foundation, as it can cling to dry areas. Skincare is key, no matter what the skin type, however with dry skin, the wrong foundation can age you, plus dry skin is naturally dull, so generally foundations that add some luminosity or dewiness are best. My all time favourite foundation was Armani Hydra Glow, which was discontinued years ago, and it was been tricky to find one that has lived up to my forever love! I have tried so many foundations, and have a line up of six that work beautifully on dry skin.

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder: I adore this foundation for the natural luminosity it gives to the skin and the light, but buildable coverage. It also blurs the appearance of fine lines and pores. It also doesn't cling to any dry areas, so overall, it's a dream for dry skin, as long as you don't like full coverage.

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Foundation: This foundation is perfect for dry skin as it's infused with hyaluronic acid, which attracts moisture to the skin. It has a very watery formula and a pipette dispenser, which gives medium, but lightly buildable, coverage, with a demi-matte finish. Armani Neo Nude Glow Foundation: This foundation also contains hyaluronic acid, but also glycerin, and it glides on to the skin, offering buildable coverage, with a dewy finish. Shiseido Synchro Skin Self Refreshing Foundation: This is said to be suitable for all skin types, and although it's oil-free, I find it to work particularly well on my dry skin and it seems to look better as the day goes on. This is due to something called ActiveForce technology, which helps the foundation to self refresh. The coverage is medium, the finish is semi-matte, yet the overall look is natural. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin, it doesn't sink into fine lines, pores or cling to any dry areas and, like I said, it looks better as the day goes on. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream: There are three versions of this CC cream - one to suit all skin types, but my favourite is the original. Before using this, I didn't really bother with CC creams, because I wanted something with with more coverage than they generally offer, but this one offers pretty much full coverage - well, it's buildable to full coverage, with one layer giving medium coverage. I find that it glides over pores, fine lines, dry patches and gives a satin finish, with medium coverage. It's lightweight and makes skin look fresh and healthy. I always get compliments on my skin when I wear this.

Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation: Finally, the most expensive foundation in this post, but for me, it is totally worth the money. It has quite a runny texture, however it isn't as watery as the By Terry one. I find it best to apply it with my fingers, with one layer giving sheer coverage, but I then go in with some more and my beauty blender, to add some more coverage where I need it. It gives a very skin-like finish - neither dewy, nor matte - it just looks like skin. I find that it takes a minute or two to set, and once set, it really doesn't budge. Like the others, it doesn't highlight any pores, fine lines or texture, and it lasts very well on the skin, but you don't actually feel like you're wearing any base product. It's oil-free, but contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid, which is what makes it mesh so well with the skin. Like I said at the beginning, it's expensive, however, I can see myself repurchasing this when I finally finish it.
