The products to use when you want super-soft skin FAST!

The products to use when you want super-soft skin FAST!

I think that we all want super soft skin - products apply more evenly on it and it tends to be smoother. I'm not talking about flawless, filtered-looking skin, as most of us have texture and pores - I'm talking about realistic skin that is as soft as it can be! I  find that I use less makeup when my skin is really soft. Keeping skin smooth and soft is something that requires consistency, but what happens if you don't have time? You have an occasion (remember those?!), or reason to look at your best, and know that soft skin is the best place to start, so you need something that will work quickly? I have the perfect products for you! Obviously, you don't need them all but I'm a bit of a skincare addict!

Face:

Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari Babyfacial:  Hallelujah! This has finally arrived on this side of the Atlantic! I wrote about it several times on the blog, with a full review here. This is not for those who are just starting their acid journey or those with very sensitive skin, but it is 100% worth the hype, if your skin can tolerate it (which I think most people who are accustomed to using acids will be). It literally leaves skin feeling as soft and smooth as a baby's! It contains a blend of glycolic, tartaric, lactic, citric and salicylic acids, so you may experience some tingling when you initially start using it, but this soon dissipates. Once a week use is enough to maintain soft and smooth skin, but it doesn't just improve the texture of the skin, I notice an improvement in the appearance of pores and also in elasticity. It isn't a cheap product, but it's worth every penny! Available from Cult Beauty.

Susanne Kauffman Enzyme Peel: It was actually one of the girls at Cult Beauty who suggested this to me as she said that she prefers it to Babyfacial - I didn't think that could be possible, so I had to try it for myself! This would definitely be more suited to sensitive skin than Babyfacial, yet it's still extremely effective. The texture really surprised me when I opened it for the first time - it's clear and has a gel texture, and also a medicinal scent. I'm not sure what I had imagined, but it wasn't this! As the name would suggest, it contains enzymes, from apples papayas and kiwi fruit, which gently exfoliate the surface of the skin, to reveal a brighter and smoother complexion. It also contains aloe vera, which soothes the skin - making it perfect for sensitive skin. I personally don't experience any tingling and it doesn't leave my skin looking pink. Used once weekly, on clean skin and removed after around 10 minutes, this will maintain bright, soft skin.

Ecooking Peel Mask*:  Another product that I've spoken about many times on the blog, and with good reason! This is a powerhouse of a mask! It contains glycolic and lactic acids, to exfoliate the surface of the skin and salicylic acid, to deeply penetrate the pores, which helps to dissolve sebum buildup, and therefore, will help to keep spots at bay, as well as treat them. It can be left on the skin for up to 15 minutes, but I would recommend starting with around 4/5 minutes as it really is a powerful mask. When it's removed, the skin looks quite red, however it isn't sore and this soon dissipates, but for this reason, I tend to use it in the evening. It leaves skin feeling smooth and soft, and I find it particularly great for those under the skin bumps that can appear along the jawline. Summer Fridays Soft Reset AHA Exfoliating Solution: This was one of my favourite discoveries last year because I've never found an acid toner that is anywhere near as effective as this one. I could feel and see its results immediately, but it is also the perfect product to use to maintain soft skin. It contains 16% AHAs (glycolic and lactic acid) and to balance the acids, it contains aloe, niacinamide, glycerin and sodium hyaluronate. I use it as part of my night time routine and I think it's the perfect product for those who don't have time to use masks regularly, as this will keep your skin soft and smooth. Full review here.

Kate Somerville Exfolikate: If you are really short on time but your skin is looking dull and textured, you cannot go wrong with this product as it works in 2 minutes! It combines but physical and chemical exfoliants, in the form of lactic acid and fruit enzymes (pineapple, papaya and pumpkin), as well as honey and vitamin E, for balance. You look like The Incredible Hulk when you apply it, but it's worth it for the smooth and soft skin that it reveals after use. It can tingle a little and skin can look a little flushed initially when it is removed, but that soon dissipates and it's worth it for the smooth, soft and clear skin that it reveals.

Algenist Blue Algae Vitamin C Dark Spot Correcting Peel: This is the most recent addition to my skincare lineup, and what a great addition it is! This contains a triple whammy of AHAs, BHA and PHA, as well as vitamin C, Alguronic Acid and a blend of vitamins and minerals. I apply a generous amount to damp skin and leave it to do its thing for around 20 minutes, before removing with lukewarm water and continuing with my skincare routine. I have been astounded by the results this gives, in terms of smooth and soft skin, however it's too soon to say if it is having any effect on the one patch of pigmentation I have. I will fill you in on that when I finished the bottle, but so far, it's a big thumbs up from me!

Omorovicza Midnight Radiance Mask: I know, I know - regular readers are bored of me talking about this mask, but I keep talking about it because of the amazing results it gives! It is an overnight mask with a gel texture. Again it contains salicylic acid, which penetrates the pores deeply, but it also contains red alga, sodium hyaluronate and sand lily, the combination of which leaves the skin looking so clear, that it's almost translucent, super soft, fine lines and pores are diminished and overall, skin looks radiant and as though you are well rested. This will be a forever repurchase for me because I know when I apply it, that I will wake to better skin!

Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Pads: Again, another product that I have featured many, many times on the blog. I call these texture and blackhead erasers. They contain a blend of five acids: mandelic, glycolic, lactic, citric and malic, as well as vitamin A and resveratrol. The first pad contains all of the acids, and I tend to go to town with this pad, focusing especially on the areas that are prone to texture and congestion. Then after 2 minutes, I use the second pad, which balances the skin and I use this until it's dry, before continuing with my routine. These pads are available for those with sensitive skin, right up to the extra-strength pads, which are my favourite. They can be used daily, but I tend to use them 2/3 times weekly to keep texture at bay. They're ideal for busy people!

Oskia Renaissance Mask: I honestly couldn't tell you how many tubs of this I have bought since first discovering it in 2015! This mask contains fruit acids, with exfoliate the skin, but what I find with this mask, is that it leave my skin looking clear, feeling smooth and soft, but also hydrated. Peach in colour, it is massaged into the skin and when it turns white, it is ready to start working. I leave it for around 20 minutes and it honestly leaves my skin looking like I've had a facial!

Body:

When it comes to the body, you can achieve smooth and soft skin quickly (with a good exfoliant), but consistency is key to maintaining it. The brand that I have found best for giving me smooth and soft skin is Ameliorate. I have written a full review here, but if you were only to buy two products, I would recommend Smoothing Body Exfoliant  and Transforming Body Lotion*. Both contain lactic acid, which sloughs away the dead skin cells and helps to get kid of the chicken skin effect on the back of arms/legs - anywhere you have it! The exfoliant is applied to dry skin and left for around 10 minutes, before showering and skin is left feeling ultra-smooth, but I think that it's the regular use of the body lotion, which maintains my soft skin. I find that fake tan applies much more evenly when I use these products regularly and my skin looks more radiant, in general.

Have you tried any of these? Which product is your favourite to keep your skin soft and smooth? I'd love to hear!
