I own a lot of acid products and I really wonder how I managed before I ever started using them (probably only around 7 years ago), so when a new one comes on the market, I find it hard to resist buying it, particularly if it's from a brand that I already enjoy, or intrigues me. That is all basically me trying to justify why I bought Summer Fridays Soft Reset AHA Exfoliating Solution, when I already own so many acid products! I've tried two other products from this brand and have enjoyed both. I like when a brand doesn't just keep churning out products - this is a start up (well, relatively new) and they are gradually adding products to their line up. I have to say, at the outset, that this is a pricey product, at £49 for 100ml, so my expectations were high......
This is described as gentle, but I would personally say that given the fact that it contains 16% AHAs, means that those who are new to acids, will find that this might be a little too much for their skin, particularly if it is sensitive. My skin is very well accustomed to acids, and even I noticed a little peeling after using it for a few consecutive nights, therefore, I would recommend building up to nightly use.
The AHAs it contains are lactic acid, which is one of the more gentle forms, and glycolic acid, which encourages cellular renewal, to reveal glowing skin. To balance the acids, it contains niacinamide, which reduces inflammation, turmeric, which also soothes the skin, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, and aloe. The combination of these ingredients is why they describe it as a 2 in 1 toner - personally, there's not a chance that I would skip a hydrating serum or mist, after using this acid, but perhaps if your skin is deemed 'normal', it will work.
The texture is not as watery as most acid toners, hence the 2 in 1 idea, but saturating a cotton pad with it and swiping it all over the face and neck, does leave skin feeling very soft and even. It is for night-time use and I have to admit that I will always wake to even, clear, pore-refined skin when I use this, but like I said, I had to build up to nightly use. I would go as far as saying that it is one of the best acid toners that I have used, in terms of the results it gives - very soft, even and smooth skin and it banishes congestion. It's definitely worth mentioning that you must be militant about applying SPF the morning after use.
It is housed in a glass bottle. I have mixed feelings about skincare products in glass bottles - obviously, it is better for the environment, but our hands tend to be wet while doing our skincare routines, and therefore bottles can fall. I cracked a sink and had to replace it before, due to dropping a heavy glass tub of moisturiser (the sink was cheaper than the moisturiser!!). I just make sure that I'm extra careful these days and would remind you to be too!
Overall, this is an absolute hit for me and if you are toying with the idea of buying it, and have the budget, I would 100% recommend going for it!
Available from Cult Beauty for £49, along with the rest of the Summer Fridays range.
