Seasonal skincare switch up/additions

When the season changes, my skincare, makeup and wardrobe tend to too (revolutionary!). Today, I want to share some of the products I've added into my routine (there are year-round staples but these are additions) now that the season has changed (I still can't believe that it's Autumn!). I tend to make sure that products are really nourishing so there's nothing gel textured, in terms of moisturiser or eye cream. Everything focusing on locking moisture in as we start to use the central heating and open fire. Also, don't forget that SPF still needs to be used daily, even if the sky is as dull as dishwater outside (I'm currently using Bioderma*, and don't forget your hands as they are exposed to the rays more than your body) ! Anything marked with a * was kindly gifted to me, without obligation. I'm not going to list every single product that I use, but the ones that have been added into my routine and used more regularly than over the summer months.

I tend to change from a micellar water to a cleansing oil to remove my makeup and SPF (unless I have lash extensions on, which I don't at the moment). My choice at the moment is L'Occitane Oil to Milk Facial Makeup Remover*, which dissolves my makeup (including my eye makeup) with ease but what I also love is that it doesn't leave a cloudy film on my eyes. If I'm only wearing SPF, I can leave it at that but if I've worn makeup, I tend to go in with Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm, Emma Hardie Morninga Cleansing Balm or Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater + Tremella Creamy Jelly Cleanser, which is really soothing on the skin and contains tremella mushroom, which is apparently a hydrating powerhouse (I hadn't heard of it before either!). It gently foams, but doesn't strip the skin at all, instead it leaves it feeling comfortable and hydrated so I also use this as my morning cleanser.

When the weather is harsh, it's a balancing act between not over-exfoliating the skin as it's possibly already more sensitive, due to the wind/heating etc, however, without regular exfoliation, skin will be dull but also flaky or congested, depending on your skin type. I find that using a chemical exfoliator (like Pixi Glow Tonic*) on a daily basis, suits my dry skin best and then I will also use some retinol or AHA treatments at night. At the moment, I'm using Shani Darden Texture Reform* or Medik-8 Crystal Retinal 6 (although when I finish this, I will move to 10, which I think will be more effective for my skin).

To ensure that the skin's barrier function isn't compromised, I like to add a few drops of Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster* to my moisturiser, or if my skin is feeling extra-sensitive, I'll use it on its own. The moisturisers that I currently have on rotation are L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Cream (the old version, which is super nourishing and what I imagine touching a cloud feels like),  Kate Somerville Exfolikate Moisturiser, which nourishes but also brightens the skin, and Ameliorate Replenishing Facial Cream* (full review on the new Ameliorate Facial Skincare line coming soon so I won't say too much at the moment).

Serums and facial mists are absolute must haves in your skincare arsenal. I am a total mist addict and at the moment and going between Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist* and Emma Hardie Plump & Glow Hydrating Mist*- both of these offer hydration and comfort with a fine mist action, so you can use them throughout the day, without running the risk of disturbing your makeup. In terms of serum, I am a massive fan of Image Ageless Total Pure Hyaluronic Filler* and Ameliorate Transforming Facial Serum*. I also think it's important to include a Vitamin C serum - these are the basics and then, if you're a skincare junkie, you will no doubt have other serums in rotation. A staple for me is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, which I have used for over a decade but has recently been reformulated so I am testing the new version for quite a while before I can give you my final thoughts. I'm also using the accompanying eye cream at night and Antipodes Kiwi Seed Gold Eye Cream* during the day. Use the code LYMIN to save 20% on any of these on Look Fantastic!

I will use an exfoliating or clay mask once weekly and other than that, it's all about nourishing masks, especially those that can be left on overnight, such as GLAMGLOW Thirstymud, Omorovicza Gold Hydralifting Mask* (both are extremely nourishing and leave me with fresh, plump and calm skin the morning after use) and Midnight Radiance Mask, which will always guarantee me a great skin day the morning after use.

I almost always apply some oil, just before bed and my currents on rotation are Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil* (review here), Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant and Superfood Face Oil and NSF The Micro Oil*, which I have only been using for a few week but a full review will be on the blog soon.

I then finish with SPF and lip balm - I am loving Lanolips Lemonaid and I re-apply throughout the day to keep my lips soft and smooth. I seem to use lip balms as quickly as I do hand creams at the moment!

I've also switched up my haircare routine a little, as I've experienced hair loss since Covid, but I've also had balayage so I want to inject as much moisture as possible into it and take care of it as best I can. I'll have a full post on that coming soon.

In terms of my body, I am loving the combination of Bioderma Atoderm Ultra-Nourishing Anti-irritation Cleansing Oil* and Bioderma Atoderm Ultra Nourishing Cream* , which is great if you are limited on both space and money, as this can be used on both the face and body - it's very nourishing, yet doesn't feel greasy at all. I find that by using a shower oil, I don't necessarily have to use a body moisturiser if I'm in a rush but I am the type of person who likes to moisturise by body daily.

Do you switch up your routine with the seasons? I know that this sounds excessive, but I do get sent products so if you want to keep your routine streamlined, I'd recommend changing to an oil cleanser and also adding an oil in at some point in your routine, instead of buying a new moisturiser. those two and a hydrating mist should see you through and maintain the skin's natural barrier.
