If a product was sent to me, it will be marked with a * |
Ordinarily if I were posting a seasonal edit, it would be full of palettes, blushes, lipsticks etc but given that we're in lockdown (and I will be cocooning until August due to my pre-existing illness), this edit will look a little different! I will still wear makeup occasionally but it certainly won't be an everyday occurrence! That said, I will keep up with my weekly tanning ritual, simply because it makes me feel good. That's actually the whole focus of this edit - products that make me feel good because it's so important when in lockdown to take care of yourself both physically and mentally and I believe they are intertwined.
My focus will be on skincare more than makeup over the coming months but those products are regularly covered in other posts so I won't be mentioning them in today's post. Instead, I'll focus on other products that make me feel good.
I know it's Spring and the evenings are getting longer and the temperature is rising but I still love lighting a candle or having a diffuser on the go. My current two are Clean Reserve Warm Cotton Diffuser*, which smells like fresh washed towels, with a slight hint of warmth - it really is like a comforting hug. The second is a candle from Molton Brown, which is a brand that I adore. It's their Milk Musk Single Wick Candle - it's a cosy, earthy candle with notes of cedarwood, vanilla and musk. Currently, if you buy it from Cult Beauty, you will receive a free mini shower gel. Both of these scents are comforting, which is what we need when life is 'not normal' and, let's face it, life right now is anything but normal!
To keep skin supple, I find that L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil* works a treat but if I'm in the mood for a bath, you can't beat Therapie Himalayan Detox Salts as I know that I am guaranteed a good night's sleep from these.
I'm one of those people who has to moisturise their body every day. From the boobs upwards, I'm using Clarins Body Partner Stretch Mark Expert*, which I massage in circular motions and upwards. I have noticed a vast improvement in the elasticity in this area and for the rest of my body, Ecooking Hydrating Body Lotion* is my go-to at the moment because it's nourishing yet very lightweight so it absorbs immediately. It also seems to increase the elasticity in my skin, probably because it's packed with hyaluronic acid but it also contains 5% niacinamide, which will help with age spots. Bonus points for the fact that it has a pump and a little goes a long way! If you like the sound of it and want to save 20%, use the code beautylymin at the checkout! (not affiliated). I also like that it doesn't interfere with my tan and I have three on the go at the moment - depending on how tanned I want to be. For a very natural, golden tan, which is also hydrating, I will use Ecooking Self Tanning Mousse*, which I reviewed here and the 20% code works on that too. For a deeper tan, which will last longer, I go for Bali Body Ultra Dark Tanning Mousse*, which I reviewed here. Finally, I have the St Tropez Purity Water Gel option, which I reviewed here. This tan is non-transferable so if I want to tan and get dressed without risk of transfer, this is my go-to, as is the matching Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist, which doesn't break me out and gives a golden glow. My advice is to steer clear of the Mousse in this range - it really is a disappointment, which I posted about here.
Even if I'm not wearing makeup every day, my nails will always be painted and in rotation, I have Essie Fiji (classic), Essie Lovie Dovie (which I need to replace soon) and CND Lady Lily. I also use nail oil as part of my nightly routine.
When it comes to my brows, I bought a Hollywood Brow Perfector, which is a brilliant little gadget and some Eyelure Brow Dye and they're both working a treat.
Finally - makeup. Some days I wear Omorovicza Complexion Perfector because it just blurs the appearance of pores and makes me look healthier. Other days, I reach for Charlotte Tilbury Unisex Heathy Glow, which looks kinda grey in the tube, but when massaged into the skin, it transforms to a healthy sun-kissed glow! I'm loving Clarins Instant Concealer because a quick dab and dark circles are banished. My go-to lip product is Clarins Instant Lip Perfector or Dior Lip Glow. I also always have to wear mascara if I'm wearing any makeup and I'm currently loving Benefit Bad Gal Bang. That's it for basic days but if we're talking date night (at home), I'll use one of my new palettes for my eyes, my By Terry CC palette to add life to my face and I'm loving the combination of Patrick Ta She's Humble lip crayon with Charlotte Tilbury Kim KW lipstick.
For fragrance, I am going between so many as I don't want to associate just one scent with the Coronavirus so I'm rotating a few - Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay, Escentric Molecules 01, Omorovicza Bagatelle De Gabrielle*, Marc Jacobs Daisy and Tiffany & Love. That's quite a few but I love them all and they all make me feel fresh and Spring-like.
Obviously, my number one must have product every day is SPF and I'm currently using Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF 30*, which, thankfully, doesn't leave a white cast on the skin.
Thanks for reading!
