Brands can't get it right all of the time - none of us can! There is bound to be a dud every so often and it's also worth remembering that just because a product doesn't work for one person, doesn't make it a bad product. Today I want to share some products that I have been disappointed by from brands that I really love (they will have been featured many times on the blog). I would love to hear what products have disappointed you from brands you love in the comments below? If a product is marked with a * it was kindly sent to me without any obligation to post about it.
The very first product that immediately sprang to mind when composing this post is Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation, which I reviewed here. I think this is probably the only product I have tried from this brand that I didn't get along with. To be fair, I have dry skin and it just really does not do it any favours - I'm talking lines and pores that I didn't even know existed before applying this foundation! It also isn't weightless, as per the description. If you have oily skin, you might get along better with it or maybe you have dry skin and love it but it's a big fat no from me!
I've raved about St Tropez Purity Water Gel on the blog several times since discovering it (post here) and I love the brand in general (I've used it for almost 20 years), however the Purity Bronzing Water Mousse is a miss for me. For starters, it doesn't have the same fruity scent as the gel, however what I really dislike about it is the texture. The mousse is far too foamy and it makes it difficult to apply evenly. It also seems to soak into the mitt more than my skin, which is a waste of product/money. I won't be repurchasing and will just stick to the gel, which I ADORE!
The more I try from Drunk Elephant, the more I like but the product that has disappointed me is B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum. I just don't find that it actually hydrates my skin very much. It might be suitable for normal or combination skin but for Sahara-like skin like mine, it just doesn't do anything positive and I'm not crazy about the texture either. That said, I really love at least six other products from the brand so it really is just a case of this product, rather than the brand, just not being for me.
I love Jessica nail polishes because they apply so evenly that it would be almost impossible to get a streaky finish, however I recently bought Jessica Brilliance High Gloss Top Coat, which I was pretty sure I used around five years ago and it's absolutely awful! Fair enough, it might give my nails a high shine but my nail polish chips within 2 days, which is not what I am used to. I like my nail polish to be chip free for around 5-7 days if possible!
Ameliorate Transforming Body Cream*: I feel quite bad including this product because I love so many products from this brand as they leave my skin feeling silky smooth and soft but this one is just hard work to apply. I generally use the lotions (I've been through countless tubes), which absorb quickly but it almost feels like a workout when I massage this cream into my skin! First world problems, I know! I just like to be able to apply a product quickly and then get dressed! The result is still smooth skin though so I shouldn't complain too much!
I would love to hear what products have disappointed you from brands you love?
