I know that lots of people start their 'New Year, New Me' rituals on January 1st but I never do because my family get together for another Christmas Day feast on New Year's Day at my parents' house so there really is no point in pretending that I will commit to healthier eating that day. I'm also not the type of person who imposes very strict rules on myself just because it's January - banning myself from eating a certain food type or category will only make me want it more. I focus on nourishment rather than punishment and that way I am more inclined to commit. I also focus on using products I love and regular pampering rather than keeping products, clothes, jewellery etc 'for good' - every day that we are alive is a good day, in my opinion. Today, I want to share the products I am using to make January a little easier and come back on Monday for a giveaway of some of the products!
Like many people, over the Christmas and New Year period, my routine pretty much went out the window! There were late nights, early starts (equalling not enough sleep), too much sugar, more food than I needed and, surprisingly, not much alcohol (I was on medication for most of the time, which alcohol doesn't mix well with). I still took my supplements and had some fruit here and there, but on the whole, my diet wasn't great. Like I said, I am not one to be very strict with myself - each to their own but that style just doesn't suit me. Instead, I have turned to some Rejuvenated products* to help to curb my sugar cravings, re-set my appetite and re-hydrate my skin and body. Two products, which I have previously taken and have re-started are H3O Night Repair* and H3O Hydration*, which I previously reviewed here. They are packed with vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid and I find that the Night Repair helps me to sleep, which is always a good thing. Both also help to reduce inflammation in my skin and body- always welcome are a period of overindulgence as sugar is inflammatory. They are easy to incorporate into my routine as the Night Repair is just a capsule in the evening and the Hydration is a powder, that I mix with water and drink, which I usually do with breakfast. Another brilliant product from this brand is their Skin Perfecting Complex*, which I have been taking for around 3 months now and I love how they help my skin to look fresh, even and plump!
New to my routine are Rejuvenated Protein Smoothies* and Re-Set Capsules*, which can be bought as a set here*. I'm no stranger to having a smoothie for breakfast (I have a green smoothie most mornings), however I am new to protein smoothies. These are vegan, sugar-free, gluten-free and lactose-free. The powder can be mixed with skimmed milk, water or a dairy alternative (I like to use almond milk). There are three flavours available - chocolate, strawberry and banana. They contain organic pea protein and fibre, which help to make you feel fuller for longer. Now, I'm not going to lie - they don't taste like a Five Guys milkshake but they aren't in the least bit offensive. Chocolate is my personal favourite and I have noticed that they do stop me reaching for some of the leftover chocolates. I also take a Re-Set* capsule twice daily (one with breakfast and one with lunch). These capsules help to suppress my appetite by balancing blood sugar due to the inclusion of chromium or chorogenic acid. Magnesium and potassium help to increase energy levels, making them the perfect supplement to take in January after a period of indulgence. Combined with the smoothies, I really have noticed that I'm no longer staring longingly at the Milk Tray (doesn't mean I'm not treating myself to the odd one - just not for breakfast, which was known to happen over Christmas!).
In order to regulate my sleep pattern, I am using This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, combined with a bath using the accompanying shower gel in the evening. I also like to use any luxury body products I own because I usually receive some gift sets at Christmas, which have matching body lotions and perfumes. Instead of saving these products for 'good use' or special occasions, I am using them daily and it really does lift my spirits to smell good and have soft, supple skin. Ameliorate Skin Smoothing Exfoliant is a really brilliant product to help eliminate bumps from my limbs, which means that oils or moisturisers will penetrate the skin more deeply, leaving my skin smooth, soft and smelling good.
In terms of my skin, it's all about hydration and renewing my skin. I am using Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist* daily in my skincare routine but also throughout the day to really ensure hydration levels are high. My go to serum at the moment is Sarah Chapman Skinesis Intense Hydrating Booster, which really lives up to its name and also layers well with other products to ensure that my skin is plump and bouncy. Not forgetting about my lips, I am LOVING Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment*, which intensely nourishes my lips and helps to eliminate any lines and I find that products apply evenly as my lips are smooth and even.
A mask combination that I am loving at the moment is Drunk Elephant Baby Facial, which acts like a peel and really leaves skin feeling super smooth (review here). I then follow it with their new F-Balm Electrolyte Water Facial. Full review coming soon but my parched skin in instantly soothed and I always wake to plump, hydrated skin.
Finally, I have to mention that a great mood booster for me is candles. I absolutely love lighting them and filling my rooms with scent. Two that I am loving at the moment, particularly for during the day, are L'Occitane Uplifting* and Revitalising Candles*. The former contains notes of basil, cypress and eucalyptus, which combine to create a fresh scent that isn't too sharp. The latter contains mint, lime, pine, rosemary and sweet orange. Both candles fill the room with scent and I find that they really are invigorating and motivating scents. An inexpensive, calorie-free mood booster!
I'd love to hear what your January routine is? Do you do dry January? Do you go cold turkey on treats?
Come back on Monday to find out how to win the Rejuvenated products!
