When the season changes, I always like to switch up my skincare - not completely, but I'll always make some changes. Now that it's Autumn and the central heating is on, my skin is feeling a little parched and looking a little dull. The temperatures have yet to drop into single figures (hopefully it will stay that way for a few weeks more!) but I have noticed that I need to up my game to make sure my skin is glowing and I want to share some additions to my regime with you today.
Naya Everyday Glow Serum: This brand is a recent addition to my skincare routine and I will have a brand overview coming in a few weeks but I had to mention this serum in today's post because it gives my skin an instant boost and glow. The line is centred around cacay oil, which nourishes and firms but this serum also contains vitamin C, which brightens the skin and mango, which is rich in omegas and helps to revitalise the skin. It is light blue in colour due to the chlorophyll it contains, which protects against damage from free radicals. As soon as I apply this serum, my skin looks brighter and I also find it to be hydrating without being heavy or at all greasy. The perfect antidote to dull skin.
Pixi Vitamin C Serum: Another brightening serum that I am enjoying is this Pixi offering. I was sent five products from this vitamin C line and this serum and the moisturiser are definitely my favourites. my skin is quite sensitive to vitamin C however I love the brightening effect that it has. It helps uneven skin tone and also helps to firm the skin. I find that I can't use this serum daily however it is fine to use every second or third day. For those without any sensitivity to this ingredient, it can be used daily. It is particularly useful if you have areas of hyperpigmentation after the summer months - I have one area that appears after sun holidays every year, despite the fact that I use a high factor on my face, but this serum has helped that to fade and look more even. One word of warning with this serum is that it may oxidise - it hasn't happened to mine yet but my friend Anne from Doctor Anne said that it happened to her serum after around 10 weeks so it is worth using consistently (or as frequently as your skin can tolerate) once you open it. One final thing that I love about it is the faint lemon scent!
Pixi Vitamin C Lotion: Although this is described as a lotion, it's actually quite creamy in texture. Like the serum, it has a faint lemon scent which I know won't appeal to everyone as some people are sensitive to fragrance in skincare. It contains vitamin C, ferulic acid (which acts as an anti-oxidant) and lactic acid (which is a gentle exfoliant). Again, this is not a product that I can use on a daily basis, however I love how it absorbs quickly and whilst it isn't super rich, it does feeling nourishing on the skin. For those with combination or normal skin without any sensitivity to vitamin C, this would be an ideal daily moisturiser.
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Glow Moisturiser: This contains glycolic acid, lactic acid and fruit enzymes, which might sound quite active and alarming but it isn't at all harsh on the skin and I can use it daily, despite having sensitive skin. It gently exfoliates to reveal brighter skin but it contains opuntia ficus-indica fruit extract, which soothes the skin, hence the lack of irritation. Used consistently, skin is bright, glowing and even in tone.
Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturiser: I love the Alpha Beta line as it really helps with textured skin from scarring, blackheads, blemishes etc. I have repurchased the pads several times and a few months ago, I decided to buy the moisturiser in the same line. I thought that it might be too harsh to use daily but I was wrong. The ingredient list is impressive with a combination of AHAs and BHAs but it also contains squalane, ceramides, sodium hyaluronate and Chinese fox glove, all of which deliver a powerful dose of moisture and hydration to balance the skin. I don't use it twice daily (although that is possible) - my preference is to use it after using the alpha beta pads, at night and I always wake to smoother, brighter skin. This will feature even more regularly in my routine as we move into the winter months.
Obviously, it isn't necessary to use all of these products but I wanted to show you what I have on rotation and give you some ideas if your skin is looking dull. Have you made any changes to your skincare regime recently?
