Four brilliant exfoliating toners

Exfoliating toner, acid toner, Omorovicza Silver Saviour Tonic, Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, Emma Hardie Exfoliating Brightening Tonic Review, Pixi Glow Tonic,

There is no doubt that chemical exfoliators and acids, in general, really made a big difference to my skin when I introduced them to my routine around 6 years ago. Back then, there weren't very many on the market and it was tricky to get hold of Pixi Glow Tonic as it wasn't as freely available as it is today. Thankfully, things have changed and most brands now offer a liquid/chemical alternative to the traditional face scrub. Using an acid toner daily is an easy way to achieve fresh, glowing skin and to prevent clogged pores.  If you are new to acids, you might find the idea a bit daunting but I promise that your face won't resemble Samantha's when she had her chemical peel in Sex & The City! Start gently and work your way up to frequent use and higher strengths and you will see a positive change in your skin. Today I am sharing four of my favourite liquid exfoliants with you.

Pixi Glow Tonic: This product has cult status at this stage and with good reason! It combines glycolic acid (which gently exfoliates the skin's surface) with aloe vera (which soothes the skin) and witch hazel (which firms the skin). This can be used both morning and night but if you are new to acids, I would recommend starting with every second day, either morning or night and then building up. Used regularly, this reveals clear, glowing skin that isn't inflamed or irritated as this is a gentle, yet effective product. It has been a regular feature in my routine for around five years now and I don't see that changing.

Emma Hardie Exfoliating Brightening Tonic: This toner uses bakuchiol (which is nature's alternative to retinol), as well as pomegranate enzymes (which gently exfoliates the skin and releases trapped bacteria in the skin), Sytenol A (which stimulates collagen production), Tego Cosmo C250 (which regulates the PH balance of the skin) and also vera (which soothes and hydrates the skin). This is a very gentle, yet very effective product. It really improves the clarity and elasticity of the skin and it also brightens so it really is a brilliant all-rounder. I have just finished this bottle and will be repurchasing because I found it so effective. Full review here.

Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant: This is a great option for those with oily or congested skin but I have dry skin and still benefit from using it so it isn't limited to oily skin. It contains salicylic acid (a BHA), which is oil soluble and can penetrate the pores more deeply than AHAs and helps to prevent breakouts. I have sensitive skin and I don't find this irritates my skin at all nor do I find it overly drying but I always follow with a hydrating mist, serum etc. This is a particularly great product to use around the time of the month that usually leads to hormonal breakouts but those with oily skin will benefit from daily use.

Omorovicza Silver Saviour Tonic:  This is the perfect product for congested and oily skin. It contains salicylic acid and colloidal silver, both of which treat blemishes but it also contains niacinamide, which is anti-inflammatory and the brand's Thermal Healing Concentrate, which soothes the skin. It also included hyaluronic acid, which attracts 1000 X its weight in moisture so if you have oily but dehydrated skin, you will love this. Used daily, this will keep blemishes at bay without stripping the skin. Full review here.

It's very important to wear SPF daily but especially when using acids as skin is more prone to sun damage when exfoliated.

Have you used any of these? I'd love to hear what your favourite liquid exfoliant is?
