Molton Brown New Guard Perfume Collection

Molton Brown New Guard Perfume Collection

If you're an avid Molton Brown fan, you may have noticed recently that their fragrance line has had a makeover! The brand want us to explore their new scentscape to discover a fragrance that truly represents our own individual truth. Whilst this may sound a little out there, if you think about it, scent is a very powerful thing. It can transport you to a point in your life - be it good or bad, in an instant. It can make you feel comforted (perhaps if it conjures up a childhood memory), loved, free, alive - there are so many feelings associated with scent and stages or places in our lives. For me, if I smell a rich authentic rose scent, I am immediately transported back to my Granda's garden when I was a child and the bouquets he gave us to take home each week. Lilac blossom will always remind me of my First Holy Communion mass as I carried a bunch of it to the altar (again, from my Granda's garden). Lemon scents also remind me of my Granda's house as he had some lemon verbena plants beside his front door, but it also reminds me of Trinidad, where my husband proposed to me as we were all doused in a lemon-scented bug repellent daily! There are 27 eaux de parfum and eaux the toilette available in the range so there should be something to stimulate the senses of every individual. I chose Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel as my fragrance so let me tell you a little more about it.

I have to mention the packaging first of all.  The bottles were designed by Vinvent Villeger and they are heavy, luxurious and striking. The lid of each eau de parfum is coloured to represent the scent within the bottle - a deep pink for Rose Absolue, light orange for Orange & Brgamot and so on. The box which the fragrance is housed in is a statement piece - it screams luxury. In the case of Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel, the colour palette is sea green, which is continued in the marble effect box. This would make a truly beautiful gift if budget allows. Accompanying each fragrance is an individual glass sphere, which is inspired by the architecture of Mayfair, the home of Molton Brown.

The reason I chose this particular scent is because it is fresh, airy and reminds me of the beach. Every time we go to the beach, I take a few minutes to really focus on my breathing because I feel that I can breathe more deeply when the air is so fresh. My husband and I both love the beach and I also have so many happy childhood memories of holidays on the coast in Ireland, England and France. Somehow, troubles always seem to be forgotten when sitting on the sand, breathing in the fresh sea air. It clears my mind and allows me to truly be in the moment. My husband and I have a goal to live right on the coast so that we can experience that fresh, sea air every day. In the meantime, I have this gorgeous fragrance to transport me there.

This perfume contains top notes of bergamot, fig leaves and ginger. The middle notes are cypress, jasmine and frankincense and the base notes are musk, vetiver, cedarwood and smoky leather. They combine to create a clean, airy, almost masculine scent so I truly believe that this is a unisex fragrance. It is mesmerisingly fresh, isn't overpowering yet is easily detectable and it lasts a good 7 hours before needing a refresh (although the scent lingers on clothes a little longer).

If this scent isn't to your taste, you are bound to find something to suit you within the range. There is a fragrance finder quiz to help you choose too. Available in 50ml and 100ml bottles in both Eau De Toilette and Eau De Parfum with prices starting at £60.

I'd love to hear what your favourite type of scent is and which scents evoke the strongest memories or feelings in you?
