Want super soft limbs and lips? Ameliorate is the brand you need to know about

Want super soft limbs and lips? Ameliorate is the brand you need to know about

You know those annoying bumps that can appear on the back of your arms or upper thighs? The ones that are so hard to get rid of? Ameliorate is the answer to those! In fact, the brand was started because the founder had suffered from this all of her life and then her children did too, so she decided to take matters into her own hands and Ameliorate was born! Bumpy or dry skin is something that most people have but it's easier to ignore in winter when we're covered up but now that we're experiencing some sunny days, our limbs are on show. If you want to improve the appearance of your skin without having to get salon treatments or spend a fortune, this is the brand for you. What's even better is that you can get free shipping on all Ameliorate products by using the code LYMIN at checkout. This is valid until the end of July.

You will have heard me rave about Smoothing Body Exfoliant many times previously on the blog. It is different from other body scrubs in that it's used on dry skin rather than in the shower. I massage it into my body and then leave it to work its magic for a few minutes before rinsing and the result is super soft and smooth skin but it doesn't feel stripped. It is definitely the most effective product that I have used to treat my Keratosis Pilaris. It contains both physical and chemical exfoliants in the form of biodegradable bamboo granules and lactic acid but also contains nourishing ingredients, such as coconut oil, shea and cocoa butter, which ensure that skin feels moisturised. £17.50 for 150ml.

The first product that I tried from the brand is Transforming Body Lotion, which achieved cult status very quickly when it was released. This is because it actually makes a big difference to bumpy skin. It contains lactic acid, which effectively exfoliates the skin but is gentle enough to use daily. It also contains Sweet Almond Oil to nourish the skin. It needs to be used consistently to achieve good results but after a few weeks, skin is smooth and soft. It also helps to prevent ingrown hairs by unblocking hair follicles and it also encourages skin cell renewal. To achieve best results, use twice daily for 4 weeks and then once daily afterwards. I have to mention the scent, which can be a little off-putting for some as it smells almost sour but it doesn't hang around. That being said, there is a fragrance-free version available too. It is suitable for use on children over 3 years of age and can also be used on the face, but I personally haven't done that. Available in 100, 200 and 500ml bottles, starting at £14.50. It's also available with a hint of colour, which washes off but is perfect for times when the sun appears unexpectedly and you want to get your limbs out without looking too pasty.

Softening Bath Milk Oil is a great product to use if you feel like you can't commit to daily use of body lotion, or ideally, in addition to the lotion. One capful added to the bath two or three times weekly helps to improve skin texture. It feels instantly soothing on the skin - perfect if you have patches of very dry skin because it also moisturises. It contains Sweet Almond Oil, Colloidal Oats, Starflower and Camelina Flower Omega Oils - calming and nourishing ingredients. £19 for 250ml.

For dry and rough hands, Intensive Hand Treatment makes a big difference. It exfoliates, renews, softens, moisturises and protects the skin. I apply hand cream several times daily but I always make sure that this is the one I use at night to give it plenty of time to work. Like the other products in the range, it contains lactic acid, which exfoliates but it also contains nourishing shea butter and sweet almond oil amongst others. It absorbs instantly and doesn't feel at all greasy but it really does make a big difference in terms of making my skin feel really soft. It is pretty pricey at £15 for 75ml but a little goes a long way.

A recent addition to the lineup is the Intensive Lip Treatment. This was a lifesaver for me on holiday and ever since because it had kept my lips soft and nourished. I also used it throughout the flight to make sure that my lips didn't dry out, which is a risk when flying. It keeps my lips soft and plump and is ideal for wearing under matte lipsticks. £15 for 15ml.

One thing to mention is that because all of the body products contain AHAs, they will make your skin more sensitive to the sun so it's very important to keep on top of your SPF as nobody wants to be burnt or sundamaged!

Don't forget that if you want to get free shipping on any of these products or anything on the Ameliorate site, use the code LYMIN at the checkout until the end of July. Happy Shopping!
