Dermalogica is a brand that has featured in my skincare routine for longer than any other. I had used some other high end brands prior to first using Dermalogica but had never been hooked enough to buy a number of products from the same brand before. It was (and still is) a very hyped brand and I loved the idea of face mapping and multi-masking, which was innovative as they were the first brand to introduce these methods as the norm. After my first facial with the brand, I then went on to purchase the products that were recommended and loved the results so much that I decided to exclusively use the brand for 6 months prior to our wedding. I knew that I could depend on the products and facials to have my skin looking its best for our big day! Since then, I have always had some of the products in my routine - the brand will be a forever love of mine! Given the long love affair I have had with the brand, I was thrilled to be invited to be part of their Skinfluencer campaign a few months ago. I was kindly sent some products, most of which I had used a lot in previous years, and I want to share my thoughts on them with you today. Every product from the brand is free from artificial colours and fragrances, alcohol and mineral oil.
Precleanse: Although I have always double-cleansed, I didn't always use a separate product for each cleanse until this product was released. I first bought it in 2006 and was instantly hooked. It's a cleansing oil that breaks down every scrap of makeup but doesn't leave a film on the skin, sting my eyes or make them cloudy. A little goes a long way with this oil and I love that it has a pump. There is also a balm version but I have yet to try that.
Ultracalming Cleanser: This is the perfect cleanser for sensitive or reactive skin. It has a light cream-gel texture that feels soothing and calming on the skin. It's gentle and leaves the skin feeling clean without being stripped. There is also no residue left on the skin.
Special Cleansing Gel: For those who prefer a foaming cleanser (one that is soap free), this is a great option. Quillaja Saponaria is a naturally foaming ingredient and it also contains lavender, which is soothing on the skin. It doesn't leave skin with the tight feeling that many foaming cleansers do and is suitable for all skin types.
Daily Microfoliant: This was the very first product I bought from the brand and it still has the cult status that it had all those years ago. It's a rice based exfoliator, which is gentle enough for daily use (as the name suggests) but effective enough to leave the skin smooth and polished due to the ingredients, which include salicylic acid, papain, colloidal oatmeal and more. Full review here.
Daily Superfoliant: This is like the big sister to the Daily Microfoliant because it is more powerful with a combination of AHAs, activated charcoal, niacinamide, red algae and tara fruit extract. It protects against environmental aggressors while deeply cleansing and exfoliating the skin. For those with sensitive skin, I would recommend Microfoliant rather than Superfoliant but if your skin is quite tolerant to powerful scrubs, this is the one for you.
Intensive Moisture Balance: I have raved about this moisturiser several times on the blog in recent months and with good reason. It is extremely hydrating - said to deliver moisture 10 layers deep yet it isn't at all greasy and absorbs quickly. It contains hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, echinacea, centella asiatica and their trademarked BioReplenish Complex, all of which combine to brighten and nourish the skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth. Review here.
Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque: This product makes skin look around five years younger in 15 minutes! It contains Vitamins A, C and E and Linoleic Acid, which replenish, nourish and protect the skin. It feels instantly soothing and really plumps the skin. Particularly great for parched, tired skin but suitable for all skin types, especially when looking dull, grey and showing the signs of ageing.
Dynamic Skin Recovery: Although this is classed as a moisturiser, it isn't rich enough for my skin to use it in that way. Instead, I layer it over my moisturiser to add some broad spectrum SPF. Those with normal or combination skin may find that it works well as a moisturiser with SPF50 protection as it is lightweight and absorbs immediately. It also helps to improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin.
I have recommended Dermalogica products to so many friends and family who still use the products all these years later, simply because they work. If you have a salon near you that uses this brand, I highly recommend booking a facial and having the facemapping done to ensure that you are using the perfect products for your skin type.
Have you tried any of these products or had facemapping done? I'd love to hear!
