The Glowing Skin Edit Part Two: Makeup

How to fake glowing skin, Cheat your way to glowing skin

Following on from yesterday's Glowing Skin Edit, which involved skincare, today I want to share products that will help to fake a glow. There are times that we all need to fake it, especially after late nights, broken sleep and periods of ill-health. Luckily, there are some fab products that can hide a multitude of sins! Obviously, I'm not recommending wearing them all together at the same time (unless you like the discoball look and in that case, you do you!) but even just one or two of these items together can really transform the face.

Primer: If you just want a hint of glow, using a glowing primer under a satin or demi-matte foundation will give you that result without looking too full on. Becca Backlight Priming Filter is very light in texture and imparts a gorgeous glow without leaving the skin looking wet or greasy! What I love about it is that it doesn't emphasise porous or textured skin and other products layer well over it. Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is good skin in a bottle! It blurs the appearance of pores and fine lines while also giving the skin a healthy, luminous glow. It is a must have product for a glow-loving person like me because I know that I am guaranteed a good (looking) skin day when I use it. I t can be used as a primer but also over foundation as a highlighter.

Foundation: If primers aren't your thing (or even if they are), a glowy foundation is a game changer and can transform you from drab to fab in an instant. Those with very textured skin may want to skip glowy foundations as they can sometimes highlight those areas so it might be best to stick to other glow-inducing products but it depends on how textured your skin is. An alternative would be to use a pore-filling primer to reduce the appearance of porous and textured skin. Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder offers light, buildable coverage while also blurring the appearance of fine lines and pores. It's very lightweight and blends seamlessly into the skin with little effort. It offers a little glow without being shiny or greasy looking. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Illumination+ offers medium to full coverage with a luminous finish (almost like you've added a small amount of liquid highlighter to your base product). It doesn't feel at all heavy on the skin and although can look a bit shimmery when initially pumped out of the tube, this doesn't translate on to the skin. For a dewy finish, Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation is the one! This foundation is light in texture, really comfortable to wear and offers medium coverage with a healthy, dewy finish. It doesn't cling to any dry areas and doesn't need to be paired with a glowy primer as it offers enough glow on its own, in my opinion.

Blush: Sometimes just a touch of blush is enough to add some healthy glow to the skin. The two that I highly recommend are Charlotte Tilbury Cheek To Chic in First Love and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion. Obviously the shade you choose will depend on your skin tone but both of these suit my medium skin. First Love is quite a fleshy/nude shade and offers a flush of natural colour to the cheeks whereas Dim Infusion is a light coral shade, mixed with Dim Light powder and as a result, it isn't always necessary to wear a separate highlighter with it.

Bronzer: Using a very light touch (as it's so pigmented), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer can add some life to the complexion. Not only will it add some warmth but like the blush, it is infused with an ambient lighting powder so it eliminates the need for a separate highlighter (unless you want to use one). I wouldn't recommend using all over the face as it might be a little too full-on but on the perimeter of the face and across the nose, it adds some warmth and glow. It also works beautifully as an eyeshadow!

Highlighter: The ultimate palette for any glowing skin lover is Charlotte Tilbury's Glowgasm. This contains a bronzer, blush, highlighter and glow powder (which can be used as an eyeshadow, blush topper or over the highlighter to increase intensity). It's an expensive product but if you are serious about glowing skin, you can't go wrong with it! Full review and swatches here. Becca Champagne Pop is probably one of the most famous highlighters and certainly one of my most loved. The soft peachy-gold shade is extremely flattering on my medium skin but there are 13 shades available in this product. The formula is literally buttery soft and it melts into the skin. It's pigmented but with a light hand, it's suitable for daytime wear. If you feel that you would never finish a highlighter, there is also a mini version available. Natasha Denona All Over Glow Face & Body Shimmer is a finely milled powder that blends so beautifully into the skin and intensity can be built by layering the powder without it looking heavy. A light hand will give a day time appropriate glow and layering it over a cream highlighter will give the skin a glassy/wet look finish. If you prefer a liquid highlighter, I recommend trying Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops. These drops can be used under, over or with your foundation, depending on how intense you like your highlighter to be. They look quite scary initially but once blended into the skin, they just give an intense highlight without looking Tin Man from Wizard Of Oz style!

Setting Spray: Finally, if you want to lift your base products to add some glow, why not try Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray? This has a very fine mist and it feels quite cooling on the skin. It adds some glow without leaving the skin looking wet but also performs well as a setting spray to lock makeup in place. It doesn't feel heavy or sticky on the skin and doesn't have a scent.

I guarantee you that even the dullest skin days can be transformed with these products. I would love to hear your thoughts and what your go-to products for glowing skin days are?
