The Glowing Skin Edit Part One: Skincare

Glowing skin - something that we all want but it isn't always easy to achieve. There are so many factors that can affect our skin - illness, the weather, pollution, stress etc. Those of us with naturally dry skin will know that a glow is usually something that we have to work hard (or rather, our skincare products have to work hard) to attain. It is something that requires consistency but with the right products, results will be seen. I want to share the hard working products in my routine that help me to achieve glowing skin and tomorrow, I will share products that will help to fake a glow.

Cleanser: Regardless of which cleanser you use, massaging it into your skin will really help to bring the glow. Taking the time to work the product into the skin will help to stimulate blood flow and help the skin look healthier.  A great product is Pixi Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel, because it contains glycolic acid, which will gently exfoliate the skin but also contains aloe vera, which will soothe the skin.

Toner: There are a number of acid toners on the market but none that beat Pixi Glow Tonic, in my opinion. I have raved about this on the blog so many times previously and it's still a daily staple in my routine after first trying it around 4/5 years ago. This product contains 5% glycolic acid and is gentle enough for daily use but effective enough to reveal smooth, radiant skin.

Serum: This is where I really like to invest my money because I feel that a hard-working serum makes the biggest difference to my skin. Oskia Super 16 really is a super serum. It contains 16 super nutrients and bio-actives, including bakuchiol, which is said to be nature's answer to retinol. With consistent use, this serum makes skin feel stronger and more elasticized but it also make skin look plump and glowing as well as protecting against UV damage. Vitamin C will always help to brighten the skin but it's an ingredient that is sometimes too active to use daily, except in the case of Omorovicza Daily Vitamin C Serum.  This serum helps skin to look more luminous and diminishes pigmentation in the skin. Full review here. For those with inflamed skin, Sunday Riley CEO Glow is a great option because it contains turmeric, which is a natural anti-inflammatory but it also contains Vitamin C so it will reduce redness while also helping to achieve bright and radiant skin. I must warn that it doesn't smell great (as with a lot of natural products) however the scent soon dissipates. Farmacy Honeymoon Glow has recently come to Cult Beauty, which is a 3-in-1 night serum, which resurfaces, clarifies and hydrates the skin. I reviewed this last year (here) and am glad to be able to repurchase it on this side of the Atlantic now as it made a big difference to my skin in terms of texture but also the glow it gave as a result of regular use.

Moisturiser: Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Glow Moisturiser combines glycolic and lactic acid with fruit enzymes to gently exfoliate the skin on a daily basis but it isn't at all harsh. It contains opuntia ficus-indica, which helps to eliminate any irritation and soothes the skin. Used daily, this will reveal bright, glowing skin.

Oil: Two oils that I know I can depend on when my skin is looking particularly dull are Sunday Riley Juno and Rå Skin Rescue Oil.  Juno contains Omegas 3.6 and 9, vitamin c and amino acids that not only make the skin extremely supple but also brighten the skin and really bring the glow instantly. The Rå oil instantly calms the skin as the same time as nourishing it. With regular use, skin is plump and bright due to the fabulous ingredient line up of evening primrose oil, vitamin E, chamomile, myrrh and more. This oil can also be used on the body and a little goes a long way with it.

Mask: Oskia Renaissance Mask is one of my favourite skincare products because it eliminates dead skin cells to instantly make skin look bright and feel smooth. It uses lactic acid and fruit enzymes to exfoliate but also to encourage cell renewal. Every time I use this mask, my skin instantly looks brighter and feels less textured but what I love most about it is how effective it is without causing any irritation.  I've repurchased for over 4 years and will continue to do so for as long as they make it. Another mask that instantly transforms skin is Omorovicza Ultramoor Mud Mask. I previously described this mask as Spanx for the face(post here) and I sill stand by that description. It lifts and firms the skin as the same time as decongesting and brightening the skin. It makes my skin glow as though I have just had a professional facial. I highly recommend alternating these masks and using twice weekly.

It isn't necessary to use a product in each category daily. It really depends on how dull your skin is, how well it responds to products, how much pollution you counteract daily. Once you understand what is causing the dullness or what is lacking in your routine, you can decide which product is best suited to you. Most of the products mentioned are available in travel sizes, which are perfect for trying products without investing too much so you can decide if it works for your skin.
