Following on from Friday's Autumn makeup post, I want to share some of the Clarins Autumn Make-Up Collection with you today. It's quite a small collection and the theme is Joli Rouge & Black, which entails a dark smokey eye and bright coloured lip, but not just any old bright lip, a subtle ombré lip. Clarins also recently released a range of brushes and I was kindly sent one to try, which I can honestly say is the softest brush I have ever used and the bonus is that it is completely cruelty free!
Supra Volume Mascara: I raved about this mascara last week in this post but if you haven't read that post, what you need to know is that this mascara ticks every box for me. It gives volume without any clumps, it is intensely black, it layers well, holds a curl and doesn't flake or smudge, which is no mean feat on my oily lid/watery eye combo! It is easy to remove without any tugging on the delicate eye area. It also makes my lashes feel soft and look fluttery. The limited edition packaging is stunning. An all round winner! £22/€26.
Swatches completely unedited. From left to right: Coral Gradation, Plum Gradation, Red Gradation |
Joli Rouge Gradation Lipsticks: If you read this post, you will know that I love the formula of Clarins lipsticks but what makes the Gradation lipsticks different is that they give the lips a very subtle ombré effect. Other brands have released two tone lipsticks in the past, designed to mimic the look of a liner and lipstick and create an ombré lip but they generally fell flat as the contrast was too stark. These lipsticks give a very subtle ombré look, which you can see from the swatches above. I know that a lot of people call the ombré lip look the 'butthole' look but because of the subtlety of these lipsticks, there is no fear of that look happening! The overall look is plump lips as the lighter shade illuminates the lips lending to an overall plumper pout without looking too fake.
The packaging of the lipsticks is very pretty with a gold case and red lips all over the lid. The formula of the lipstick is very moisturising and comfortable - it has some slip but not enough that it will end up on your teeth and face, but creamy enough to be comfortable on the lips - ideal for the colder months ahead. The wear time is typically around 4 hours, which is average for a creamy lipstick. There are three shades available: Coral Gradation (which I am taking on holiday at the weekend), Plum Gradation - perfect for Autumn and Red Gradation - a classic shade that can be worn all year round. £22/€24.
Multi-Use Foundation Brush: Did you know that Clarins now sell brushes? There are six available and I have the multi-use foundation brush, which is completely cruelty free. When I tell you that this brush is the softest I have ever felt, I am not joking. I love stroking it around my face without any product just to relax! This brush can be used to apply primer or foundation and I also like to use it to apply cream bronzer. It is ideal for liquid or cream foundations when you want a skin-like finish and although the bristles are densely packed, I find that it gives light coverage but you can obviously layer foundation to increase coverage but the result is still very natural as this brush makes products mesh with the skin. It washes well and still feels soft. I will definitely be buying more Clarins brushes! £26/€30.
Have you ever tried the ombré lip look? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
