Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Lipsticks - the comfortable matte lip product

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Lipsticks Review & Swatches

Just the thought of applying a matte lip product even five years ago would have made me shudder. I have dry skin, dry hair and dry lips and matte lipsticks never did me any favours but things have come a long way since then and *comfortable* matte lips are now actually a thing. Clarins recently extended their Joli Rouge line with Joli Rouge Velvet lipsticks and I was kindly sent two that I want to share my thoughts on with you today.

The packaging of the lipsticks is classic gold but what I find a little strange is that the colour on the base doesn't correspond with the colour of the lipstick inside but it's not the end of the world! The lipsticks themselves are lightly sweet in scent but it isn't very overpowering. There are 20 shades available and they are priced at £22.

The lipsticks pack a punch in terms of pigmentation - one swipe is all that's needed for a full opaque look and whilst the finish is matte, it isn't flat - in fact it makes the lips look a little plump and juicy. I find them very comfortable on the lips and I don't get that thirsty feeling that accompanies some matte lip products. In terms of longevity, I have found an average of around 5 hours before I need to re-apply, which is probably average for a lipstick as opposed to a liquid lipstick.

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Lipsticks Review & Swatches
Swatches completely unedited. Left is Papaya and right is Sandy pink.

The two shades I was sent are: 711V Papaya and 758V Sandy Pink.

Papaya is a soft orange, which is a colour that I haven't worn before but I think will be the perfect addition to my holiday makeup when I go away next month as will work well when I have a bit of colour in my cheeks.

Sandy Pink is a dusty, beige pink. It's a very wearable every day shade that would suit every occasion, day or night as it's quite muted.

If you are looking for a matte lip product that doesn't dry your lips out and is comfortable to wear then I recommend checking Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Lipsticks out.

Are you a fan of matte lips? I'd love to hear!
