Although I dislike the term 'influencer' there is no doubt that I have been enabled to buy A LOT of beauty products as a result of recommendations from people in the beauty world - I'm not talking about just big beauty bloggers but also micro bloggers, whose opinions I have come to trust. I thought this would be a good idea for a series of posts and today I am starting it with Alessandra Steinherr, who is the Beauty Director at Glamour & who has the skin of dreams! I wish I could buy everything that she recommends but I'd need to win the lotto to do that! Today I am sharing six products that I love and bought because Alessandra recommended them and some of them are pretty affordable!
Ameliorate Smoothing Body Exfoliant: I first heard of this brand last year but most people talk about the Transforming Body Lotion and whilst I like that, it wasn't the ultimate answer to bumpy skin so when I saw Alessandra recommend the Smoothing Body Exfoliant, I knew I had to try it. This body scrub is gentle, yet very effective. It is creamy in texture with a little bit of grit but it definitely doesn't tear the skin and after using it, my skin feels baby soft. I would go as far as to say that it's the best body scrub that I have used. It contains Lactic Acid, which is an ingredient that I have come to love as it isn't as harsh as some AHAs but it works very well on my skin. If you have the dreaded bumpy skin on the tops of your arms, then you need to try this product!
Collosol No Rinse Cleansing & Softening Milk: Like I said in the introduction, I think that Alessandra's skin is absolutely stunning - the skin of dreams, so I obviously pay close attention to the products she uses. I know that we share a mutual love of Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, but I wanted to know more and when I read that she said this Collosol product is the secret to her skin, I knew I had to have it. She said that she uses this instead of toner in the mornings, so that is what I have been doing (my skin was over-exfoliated so I no longer use acids on a daily basis) and the result is very soft skin. I kick myself if I am applying my serum and realise that I have skipped this step on the odd occasion when that happens. This is a French pharmacy product so not the easiest to come by but I have linked to where I bought it and it was quite reasonable, given that it's a 400ml bottle.
Mixa Hand & Body Repair: I had never heard of this brand before Alessandra mentioned it and now I am seeing it everywhere! This is another French pharmacy brand but it is sold in Superdrug in the UK and McCabes Pharmacy in Ireland. I use both the small tube of multipurpose balm and the firming body lotion. I love that the body lotion comes with a pump and that although it is lightweight, it is very moisturising and absorbs quickly. Dare I say it but I think I love it more than my usual Nivea body lotions! The multipurpose balm is perfect for soothing dry or uncomfortable skin - it's one of those products that every house needs because everyone can use it and it will be particularly useful in winter when hands can become very dry.
Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blush First Love: When I read that this is pretty much the only blush that Alessandra wears, I snapped it up immediately. I can see why she is so enamoured with it because it just gives a little something to the cheeks to make the face come alive and look so much healthier - definitely something I need with my health issues! I love how finely milled Charlotte Tilbury blushes are, which makes them easy to apply and blend and with this particular shade, I don't think it would be possible to be too heavy-handed. If you don't normally wear blush but would like to start then First Love is the one for you.
It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara: This is described as a stretch, volumising mascara and whilst it doesn't give the same dramatic, voluminous effect as YSL Faux Cils or Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir, it does lengthen my lashes like no other mascara I've tried! Don't get me wrong, it does add some volume and that combined with the length means that the focus is very much on my eyes when I wear it. It doesn't smudge or flake and doesn't make my lashes crispy so it's an all round great mascara.
MAC x Alessandra lipstick: Of course I had to mention Alessandra's own lipstick that she collaborated with MAC on. It's the perfect sheer pinky-nude that really is a "my lips but better" shade. It's a lustre lipstick so it's very comfortable to wear although not very long-lasting but because it's such a natural colour, it's easy to top up on the go!
