As we approach the end of 2016, I've been thinking about my favourites products from the year and instead of bundling all of them into one (very long) post, I've decided to do three: my favourite discoveries, my favourite skincare and my favourite makeup (including products from previous years). I've been lucky enough to receive some beautiful products from brands this year so the posts will contain some of those, but mainly products that I have bought myself and you know that I am completely honest in my opinion so my thoughts are never swayed just because a product has been sent to me. So let's get started!
Skincare discoveries:
Omorovicza Omoressence: Before receiving this product, I didn't really know what an essence was and, to be honest, wondered if they were gimmicks but hell no! I've used this product daily for around 7 months now and it is the single most effective product in my vast arsenal of skincare to combat dehydration. Within a few uses, my dehydration patches disappeared and whilst I have dry skin, I would no longer describe it as dehydrated. It is expensive at £75 for 100ml but I still have quite a bit left as I only need to use a few drops daily (after cleansing and toning to prepare my skin for the next steps) and this will be a definite repurchase for me whenever it runs out. A game-changing, hero product!
Omorovicza Ultramoor Mud Mask: Another Omorovicza product! What I love about Omorovicza products is how gentle they are due to the inclusion of thermal water in their products, but they are also very effective. You may remember that I described this mask as Spanx for the face - that is because it literally feels like it firms and tightens the skin. I absolutely adore this mask and am so happy to have discovered it because every time I use it, my skin looks really clear, radiant, plump and firmer. My mother is also a convert due to seeing a huge difference in her neck from the very first use.
Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening & Nourishing Face Oil: I have a lot of oils but since receiving this Korres one, it has become my most used oils - pretty much on a daily basis at this point. It is so light in texture yet packs a punch in terms of the moisture injection it gives without leaving the skin feeling or looking greasy. My skin has looked so much brighter since I started using this oil so it has become a staple for me.
Makeup discoveries:
Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palettes: I was so excited when I saw that Beauty Bay were starting to stock Natasha Denona products - I especially couldn't wait to get my hands on her eyeshadows because they get so much hype. Let me tell you that they deserve the hype - they are just so creamy/buttery soft, really pigmented and at the end of the day, look just as good as when freshly applied. The packaging isn't the best, but I can get over that due to how much I love what's inside. I would love to own one of the 28 pan palettes but can't justify the price right now so until then, these palettes will have to keep me satisfied. These would make the perfect Christmas gift for any makeup lover!
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara: YSL Faux Cils has been my favourite mascara for years and despite trying lots of others, it's the one I always go back to however this year, I discovered this Marc Jacobs mascara and it has taken joint top spot in my mascara top 5! It adds volume, lift, curl and doesn't flake, smudge or make my lashes crispy. If you like dramatic, voluminous lashes then you must try this. Harrods now sell Marc Jacobs & if you live in Ireland, it can be delivered via the Parcel Motel.
Milani Conceal And Perfect 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer: I've tried lots of foundations this year but this really stood out to me when thinking of products to include in this post. It is the best budget foundation that I have tried and it beats a lot of high end foundations too. A small amount is all that is required for a good medium coverage and it can be built up to high coverage without caking. It lasts for a good 8-10 hours on my skin without breaking down or disappearing and it glides over my visible pores and fine lines without any accentuation. All of this for €13 - total bargain!
Viseart Neutral Matte Eye Palette: I bought this in Sephora but this is another brand that Beauty Bay started to stock this year. This is a brand for professional makeup artists (which I am not!!), and the mattes shadows are so easy to use - not at all chalky or powdery the way a lot of matte shadows can be. They are easy to blend, long wearing and very pigmented - what's not to love!
Laura Geller Gelato Swirl Illuminator Peach Glow: This is the first Laura Geller product that I've tried and I was instantly hooked. I had wanted a peach highlighter for a while & was delighted to receive this for my birthday. It's soft in texture, which makes it a dream to apply and this particular shade is just so flattering on my skin tone. I definitely want to pick up Gilded Honey next!
Bodycare discoveries:
Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion Dark: I'm a bit of a fake tan aficionado - it's been part of my weekly routine for years! I've tried so many brands and have my favourites (Xen Tan, St Tropez, Lauren's Way to name a few) but this year, I noticed Bondi Sands getting a lot of hype so I had to try it. I adore the deep, yet not unnatural, colour this gives. It applies to easily and streak-free and the colour fades evenly, lasting around 10 days on me. I want to try the oil next!
Korres Body Milks: Finally, I had to mention Korres Body Milks - apart from the vast array of beautiful scent combinations, I adore the light texture of these - hydrating, yet not greasy and they absorb instantly so there's no waiting around to get dressed! I was lucky enough to be sent 4 of these and I have already used every last drop of 2 of them! They are affordable yet the quality is that of high end products. I highly recommend them and Korres in general.
