When I saw this post on Rachel's blog last month (check her blog out if you haven't already because she is a very talented make-up artist), it got me thinking - imagine if I could only keep 10 make-up products, what would they be? To be honest, I shudder at the thoughts of it! Of course there are more important things in life than make-up and of course I would manage with only 10 products if I had to, but I couldn't imagine being so restricted - even just having 10 eyeshadows would be tough, never mind just 10 products in total! I thought long and hard about it and found that some came to mind instantly and others took a little longer to choose but today I am going to share what made my top ten!
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm: This was one that I instantly knew I would have to include because it has been my go-to primer for at least 15 years. I use, and love, other primers but this is the one that I always go back to and have repurchased more times than I can remember. It instantly brightens my complexion and makes it look more youthful and provides the perfect base for foundation on my dry skin.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk: This is another product that I have been using for years. I try lots of other foundations but this is the one that I always return to because I can depend on it to look good and last well. It gives medium coverage (but could be built up to full) and flawlessly covers blemishes without settling into any fine lines or dry patches and it doesn't highlight any visible pores. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin and is very long-lasting. It is one I always use if I am going to a wedding or any other occasion when I need my base to stay put for hours and hours. It isn't matte or flat and isn't greasy looking either - just that perfect in between finish that is luminous, as its name would suggest.
Clarins Instant Concealer: This was a toughie because I have a few concealers that I really love - Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Urban Decay Naked Concealer and DIOR Diorskin Nude Concealer, but I would choose the Clarins one above all of those because of its texture and coverage. It is perfect for the under eye area (it doesn't crease) but is equally as good at covering blemishes. It is creamy and light, yet really packs a punch in terms of coverage and doesn't cake on my dry skin,
Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette: I'm slightly cheating by including this as it is a palette but I had to include it because I absolutely love all three blushes in here and there is something to suit every make-up look. These blushes are so flattering on the skin and apply so easily for a flush of colour or can be built up. I couldn't choose any blushes above these!
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow: This was an easy choice for me because I can bronze, contour and highlight with this one product. I have the light/medium but it also comes in medium/dark. I find the contour/bronze shade to be very flattering and it adds some soft definition and the highlight shade is perfect for gently highlighting without looking like a discoball. I don't know if I will ever hit pan on this because I use it most times I do my make-up and it still only looks lightly used so although it is priced at €65, it is good value.
MAC eyeshadow palette: Again, I am kinda cheating with this one but I simply could not choose just one shadow! It was tough enough to just choose one palette! This is one of my palettes that I have put together myself so I love every colour in here. I love MAC shadows for the variety of textures and colours available and I also love their pigmentation, longevity and blendability (yes, that's a word!). I have all looks, suitable for day/night/minimal/smokey covered in this one palette so I guess I could cope if I had to get rid of all of my other palettes (who am I kidding??!!).
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner: I have very watery eyes no matter what the season and this is the best liquid liner I have found and I can rely on it not to smudge. It is really black and the fine tip means it is very easy to apply and I can either do a thin line or a full on flick with ease with this product.
YSL Faux Cils Mascara: This is another product that I have used for years and years. I love dramatic, voluminous lashes but I don't like my lashes to feel crispy and this gives exactly what I want. My lashes look very black and full when I use this mascara and it doesn't smudge or flake on me. I always go back to it and can't tell you how many tubes I have been through - at least 20 at a guess but probably more than that.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillowtalk: This matches my lip colour exactly so it was an obvious choice for me as I can wear it on its own or with the only lipstick I have chosen. It doesn't drag on the lips and doesn't break easily - love it!
YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick in Nude Beige #1: I used to only wear nude lip colours up until around 2 years ago - pinky nude or peachy nude, but nude all the same so if I could only keep 10 products, I know I would be happy with a nude. This YSL lipstick is my favourite ever - it is a pinky nude that is creamy and pigmented and very comfortable to wear. As much as I would hate to get rid of all of my other lipsticks, I could live with it as long as I had this one because it would go well with every look.
You will notice that I didn't include a brow product, but I would just get HD brows done so I could skip that step!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this - could you easily live with just 10 make-up products or would you struggle? Also, what would your 10 products be? I would love to hear in the comments below if you do a post on this, please leave the link in the comments because I am so curious to see your products!
