Don't you just hate it when a product disappoints you? Even more so when it isn't cheap! It's rare that I buy a skincare product without thoroughly researching it but sometimes research isn't enough and you can only determine if a product works for you by trying it yourself. Today I am sharing two products that disappointed me with you and the reasons why. Please remember that this is just my opinion and my skin - they might work for you!
To start with, I'll say that I have dry and dehydrated skin that is also sensitive. With that in mind, I thought that First Aid Beauty Milk Oil Conditioning Cleanser would be safe to use without causing an adverse reaction. I previously used two First Aid Beauty products and both suited my skin so I was excited to use this. I actually bought it months ago but only got around to using it recently when I finished another cleanser. It is formulated with a number of oils and antioxidants and has a light milky texture. I applied this to my face and massaged it in, as I normally do and then removed it with a flannel and warm water. Immediately, my skin broke into a red rash that was itchy and dry. I thoroughly rinsed my face with cold water but it took a few days to calm down. I daren't use this cleanser again because of the immediate and adverse reaction. I am unsure which ingredient caused such a bad reaction but I won't be using this again. I'm disappointed because it is described as being safe for sensitive skin, but definitely not in my case.
I don't often use a physical exfoliator these days but I do have a soft spot for Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and my skin always looks brighter when I use it. I should have repurchased that product but being the skincare junkie and curious person that I am, I decided to try a similar product from a different brand and bought Nude Detox Brightening Fizzy Powder Wash. I absolutely love Nude Progenius Treatment Oil and thought it would be nice to try something else from the brand. This Nude exfoliator works in the same way as the Dermalogica one - you mix a small amount with a few drops of water and then use this paste to exfoliate your skin. This is definitely gentle and thankfully, didn't cause any adverse reaction. It lives up to the word 'brightening' in the name and my skin did looked perked up but ultimately it is too drying on my skin. I have followed it with a variety of hydrating mists and serums but my skin will still feel tight. Bear in mind that my skin is exceptionally dry at the moment due to the medication I am on, so I think that if you had normal or combination skin, this would work well for you. It is a good product, but it just doesn't suit my skin. There is a new gentle version out at the moment, which might be better for dry skin but given the price (£38), I won't take that chance.
Have you tried either of these products? Are there any products that you regret purchasing? I'd love to hear in the comments below!
