You've no idea how difficult it was to narrow my 2015 make-up favourites down to just 15 products! There was absolutely no way I could have included skincare, body care, hair care and make-up in just one top 15 post so I've decided to divide them up, starting today with make-up. I wasn't sure how to approach narrowing my favourite products down initially so I decided to choose the products that were most worn during the year, rather than just new products in my collection. Let's get started!
Clinique Lip Pop & Primer lipsticks were definitely my most worn since I first discovered them this year. I now have seven in my collection & still want more. I love the formulation of these, how comfortable they are to wear, the wear-time, the stain left behind and the packaging. If I had to choose just one, it would be Beige Pop because it is suitable for everyday wear. Love them!
My other lipstick love this year was from Nars. Their Audacious range was released in 2014, I think, but I didn't get around to buying any until this year & I was hooked instantly. The formulation is very similar to YSL Rouge Volupte but a little less slippy. Very creamy and moisturising & second to none in terms of pigmentation. I have Anna & Fanny but definitely won't be stopping there!
Hourglass No28 Primer Serum is a firm favourite from 2015. It is absolutely perfect for my dry and dehydrated skin and creates the perfect base for my foundation. It is very pricey, but I have had my bottle since March and I still have approximately 40-50% left so a small amount goes a very long way, which takes the sting out of the price (a little!).
By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Primer is another very pricey favourite. What I absolutely love about this product is flawless my foundation looks when applied on top of this primer, but it also lasts much longer than I have ever experienced with any other primer. This would be perfect for wearing to a wedding or any occasion where you need your foundation to be budge-proof for more than 12 hours.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation has been a firm favourite for around 8 years now. When I apply it, I wonder why I ever bother trying other foundations because it is the best fit for my skin. It doesn't look too heavy, yet it gives a flawless finish and it doesn't settle into fine lines or cake around my nose. If you have dry skin & like a glow to your base (but not a particularly dewy look), then you must try this foundation!
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light is another foundation love from this year. I actually bought quite a few new foundations this year, but this one stands out from the rest. It is similar to Luminous Silk in so far as it gives a flawless finish but it is demi-matte, rather than luminous. I find it very easy to blend and suits my dry skin, which I was pleasantly surprised at.
Concealer can be a tricky thing for me because I don't like anything too drying but I want to be able to use just one concealer for both blemishes and dark circles and I have found that Clarins Instant Concealer does just that. It's not the cheapest concealer, but a tiny amount covers my dark circles so it will last a long time and it doesn't cake or settle into fine lines (can you sense a theme here?!).
My most worn blush this year has been Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in the shade Dim Infusion. I have quite a few blushes in my collection but there is something about this one that makes it my go-to. I love the soft coral mixed with highlight and love the healthy glow it gives to my cheeks.
I've always been a huge fan of highlighters but this year, I've fallen head over heels for a few and it is difficult to choose between them. The Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting from Kevyn Aucoin is just everything I have ever wanted a highlighter to be. Some liquid highlighters are difficult to work with because they move the foundation underneath when applied, but this one is so silky in texture that it just glides on and highlights in the most natural way. It really makes my skin glow, but doesn't look greasy or like a disco ball. Champagne Pop from BECCA/Jaclyn Hill is an absolutely beautiful highlighter and has barely left my face since I bought it. It is so soft and finely milled and is an absolute dream to apply & wear. It's also now available in Space NK & from Cult Beauty, which is brilliant! I also fell hard for Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow this year. I lusted after this product for so long and wasn't remotely disappointed when I eventually bought it. I love the packaging and love the products inside even more. The contour is subtle enough for everyday wear without looking o.t.t. and the highlight shade is so easy to wear because it gives that healthy/youthful/lit from within look to the skin that so many of us crave. Beautiful, beautiful product.
For contouring, the product that I have loved using the most is from the Smashbox Step by Step Contour Stick Trio set. I find the pencil so easy to use, the texture is very creamy, it blends in so easily and is the perfect contour colour for me - neither too grey or orange.
For a palette addict like myself, picking just one would be impossible so I chose two and had a very hard time doing it! It will probably come as no surprise that the first one is Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. I absolutely love Too Faced shadows and this palette has so many colours that suit my skin tone, eye colour etc. I love the pigmentation and formulation and it's just an all round winner for me. It's also the ONLY palette that I took on holiday with me this year so that speaks volumes! The other stand out palette for me this year is the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette. There are three quads in this palette in cool, warm and neutral tones. All extremely pigmented, velvety in texture, completely matte and very ease to work with and blend. I can create so many different looks with this palette and have used it so many times since purchasing it. The beautiful Becca from The Beauty Inbox has told me that she heard that Boots will be stocking Kat Von D products next year! Amazing news!
Finally, my most worn mascara this year was Better Than Sex from Too Faced. Cheap name but amazing product! If you like voluminous, dramatic black lashes that aren't crispy, then this is the mascara for you! I haven't had any problems with smudging with this mascara and I just love the look it gives.
If you've made it to the end, well done! I would love to know some of your favourite products from this year - please tell me in the comments below!
