Once summer is over, I tend to switch my base up a bit. I go for a bit more coverage with a slightly less dewy finish and today I'm going to share my three current foundation favourites. I have dry skin that is also sensitive and dehydrated so if you have a similar skin type you will want to read on!
First up is Perfectionist from Estee Lauder. This is the closest to dewy to all three I've included today. It gives medium, buildable coverage and the light reflecting particles add radiance to the skin. I find this very comfortable on the skin, which is probably due to the inclusion of the perfectionist serum in the formulation. I always use a primer regardless of what foundation I am wearing and I find that this particular foundation needs to be touched up around my nose and chin after about 5 hours, which is pretty good going. I apply it with a buffing brush and then finish the application with my beloved Beauty Blender for a natural, even finish. The bottle is heavy so not ideal for travelling or on the go. I like that this foundation doesn't settle into any fine lines or highlight my pores.
Next up is Too Faced Born This Way. This is an oil free foundation, which I wouldn't normally go for given my dry skin, but the inclusion of coconut water and hyaluronic acid means that it suits my dry skin. I tried three samples of this foundation before purchasing the full size. This is a medium to full coverage foundation and Too Faced claim that it is undetectable, which I don't agree with - I really don't think it is possible for a full coverage base to be undetectable. Having said that, it blends in really well and it is comfortable on the skin, which I wouldn't normally find with full coverage foundations. It is quite creamy in texture but is easy to work with. Again, I start with a buffing brush or my fingers and finish my the beauty blender. This lasts really well on my skin (about 7 hours before touching up) and because of the coverage, I don't need to use very much (if any) concealer when I wear this foundation. I think this would work for all skin types. Again, this comes in a glass bottle so not ideal for in your handbag or travelling.
Finally, I have been loving Laura Mercier Silk Creme Moisturising Photo Edition Foundation. I really liked the original Silk Creme foundation but found that it was sometimes a little too drying for my skin, so when it was re-formulated into two new versions: Oil Free and Moisturising, I couldn't wait to try it. It is really important to shake this really well before dispensing because it separates in the tube. A tiny pea sized amount is enough to give my face a medium to full coverage. I love how this foundation gives a very flawless finish and I use very little concealer with it. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin and it lasts about 6/7 hours before it needs touching up around my nose and chin, but still looks perfect on the rest of my face. The finish isn't completely matte, but I wouldn't describe it as dewy either, it is in between the two and is perfect for those with dry skin. The plastic tube is very light and perfect for popping in your handbag.
Have you tried any of these foundations? I'd love to know what your current favourites are? Do you change your foundation when the seasons change? I'd love to hear in the comments below!
