If you have read my blog for any amount of time, you will know that I am a palette addict! When I bought the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette a couple of months ago, I loved it so much that it went straight into my Top Three Palettes of all time! Naturally, this made me want to try another palette from Too Faced so when my best friend was visiting NYC last month, I asked her to pick up the Semi Sweet Palette for me.
For $49, you get 16 shadows of excellent quality so although a little pricey, it is nothing too crazy when you consider how many shadows you get. It comes in the same sturdy case as the original palette, which looks like a bar of milk chocolate, as opposed to the dark chocolate version of the original. The first thing I noticed was that same chocolate scent from the original palette, which is not too over-powering but sweet smelling, all the same. The first thing I noticed upon opening the case, was that the black shadow had broken & that all of the other shadows had specks of black in them :-( (It had to be the black, didn't it?!)
As you will see from the pictures, I tried to remove as much of the black as possible, but it was difficult to do without spreading it further. It is such a shame because every time I open the palette now, more of it seems to shift so I am unsure how to stop that. The pink sugar shade is the worst affected, which is a shame but probably one of the shadows I would be least likely to use regularly anyway, so not the worst thing in the world. Apart from that, I am very happy with the colour selection in this palette.
Like the original palette, there is a mixture of matte & shimmer shadows and I find that they are as beautifully pigmented as those in the original palette. The only exception being pink sugar, but it may be because there are so many tiny specks of black on it. The blueberry swirl is the only shadow that I feel I won't get very much use out of, but all of the others are very wearable colours and there is no end to the number of looks that could be created with this palette.
Peanut butter, Caramel, Frosting, Butter Pecan and Truffled are my initial favourites, but I know that I will use them all. I love that the shadow names are now on the pan, rather than on a plastic insert as was the case in the original Chocolate Palette. There is also a generous sized mirror inside the lid, which is very useful. There is also a little booklet that shows three looks using these shadows, which I think is brilliant because for some people, 16 shadows can be overwhelming in terms of which would work well together so this gives a great starting point.
Overall, I am very happy that I own this palette and I honestly couldn't choose between this and the original because I love pretty much all of the shadows in both, The texture, pigmentation and blendability of the shadows is as good as you will get with any brand. As with the previous palette, this has just left me wanting to try more products from Too Faced!
Have you tried this palette? What Too Faced products do you love & recommend that I try next?

Oh my gosh, it's beautiful! I so so want this palette, I love the shades in this a lot more than the original xx
ReplyDeleteEven better if they don't have specks of black shadow in them! ;-) xx
ReplyDeleteShame that it had to be the black that broke but it still looks like a lovely palette. I am yet to try anything from TwoFaced but I do want to pick some of these up :)

Typical that it was the black! I know from your palette series that you are another palette addict so I think you would love this & the original Chocolate palette! xx
ReplyDeleteI really want both of the chocolate bar palettes and I'm glad you said you enjoy the second one as I've heard that it's not as good as the first. Why are they £45 though?! xx :)
ReplyDeleteThe original one is £39 now so only £1 more expensive than the Naked palettes but I personally much prefer these palettes! Still a lot of money for eyeshadow though! xx
ReplyDeleteI think Peanut Butter is the prettiest colour of them all! I own the Chocolate Bar palette (not the semi-sweet one) and the shade Salted Caramel is very similar to this one, also a matte. I love it so much! x

Ah Jesus! Pity about the black! It's lovely and congrats on the 1000 followers .. Well deserved! Siobhan xx
ReplyDeleteI know & the more I try to clean up the edges, the more I seem to spread! Had to be the black! xx
ReplyDeleteYes, peanut butter is very beautiful! Are you tempted by this palette when your spending ban is over?! ;-) xx
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I don't think so... The colours look so very similar to the one I have, plus I own Naked & Naked 2 and I think I can handle not having this one :) the blue turqoise colour in this palette is so gorgeous but I'm saving up for a lot of other stuff I already have my eyes on (like Hourglass blushes and stuff) and they are so expensive so... yeah... maybe one day ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to be able to get my hands on this palette, even though I certainly don't need it :) What a shame about the damaged eyeshadow but it doesn't look too bad :) x

The Hourglass blushes are lush! The good thing about your spending ban is it will re-set your spending habits - you will only buy what you really need! xx
ReplyDeleteI didn't need it either - want on the other hand.....! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to hold myself back from getting it because I have soooo many neutrals already, but this looks really pretty! And congrats on 1K followers <3

It's a real beauty! It definitely has some shadows that other palettes don't! ;-) Thanks! xx
ReplyDeleteOh no there's nothing worse then opening a beauty product that is faulted/broken somehow and like you said it had to be the black shadow out of all the shades. Looks like a gorgeous palette but not so sure I'd be pushed to buy it x

It's so much prettier in real life! xx
